Williams-Sonoma Eggnog Waffle and Pancake Mix – Product Review

by tinyswot

I have written before about pancakes and waffles being a Christmas morning tradition in my family. While often we opt for Swedish pancakes, which is always a family favorite, this Christmas we are going to be having eggnog waffles. My wife and I recently purchased an eggnog pancake and waffle mix during a recent Christmas shopping trip to Williams-Sonoma. While we usually opt for homemade pancake and waffle batter, my wife and could not resist trying the eggnog batter mix for our Christmas morning this year.

While eggnog flavoring is almost a Christmas-time cliche at this point, Williams-Sonoma eggnog pancake and waffle mix uses natural eggnog flavor as a flavoring agent. Although the ingredients list does not include nutmeg or cinnamon (which are traditional eggnog ingredients) one can infer that the natural eggnog flavor indicated in the ingredients list does an adequate job of emulating actual eggnog. The eggnog pancake and waffle mix uses powdered egg yolk which is reconstituted by the milk added to the batter mix. So, although eggnog itself is not an actual ingredient, there is real egg and natural eggnog flavor that work together to create a pancake and waffle batter that has a distinctive eggnog flavor.

Although the Williams-Sonoma eggnog pancake and waffle mix is a batter mix, you need additional ingredients to make eggnog pancakes or waffles. In addition to the pancake and waffle batter mix itself, you also need eggs, unsalted butter, and milk. You should not think of the Williams-Sonoma eggnog pancake and waffle mix as an instant mix such as Bisquick or other instant pancake mixes. The eggnog pancake and waffle mix needs to be combined with the additional ingredients and mixed to the proper consistency for pancakes or waffles. You should note that slightly different proportions are required when making egnog pancakes versus eggnog waffles, although this is described on the package itself, which contains easy-to-follow directions.

Eggnog pancakes or waffles should be topped with a quality butter and/or a permium maple syrup. Williams-Sonoma also offers a Vermont maple syrup with vanilla bean, which would be an excellent pairing for pancakes or waffles made with this eggnog pancake and waffle mix. Although other topping are certainly possible, ensure you find a pancake or waffle topping that complements the natural eggnog flavor of this pancake and waffle mix.

In conclusion, if you would like to serve a Christmas breakfast that is more interesting that traditional buttermilk pancakes or Eggo waffles, try the Williams-Sonoma eggnog pancake and waffle mix. Eggnog pancakes or waffles will make a delicious seasonal breakfast for Christmas morning, and the mix ensures that these eggnog pancakes or waffles are easy to make.
