Driving a vehicle a short distance or long distance requires a certain amount of skill and ability that involves more than just physically being able to operate the motor vehicle. A person must have the mental ability as well.
Before even setting foot in your vehicle always go over the vehicle safety check list. When getting ready to venture out on the road, A person should be in a calm state. Not distracted by personal or outside events, people, or even news. Focus on nothing but the road you are driving on and the vehicle you are operating.
When approaching the vehicle check your maintenance issues. The air in the tires should always be up to par. The windshield should be clean, streak-free, easy to see out of. All of the lights should work properly. The gas level should be where you feel comfortable, depending on the distance you will be traveling.
As you get into the drivers seat, position your seat, mirrors, and steering wheel into a comfortable position. This will allow you to have less of a distraction while you are actually driving.
If listening to the radio, CD, Mp3 player or any other musical device for your vehicle, put it on before you start to drive so you avoid looking down to tune it.
When backing out or pulling out of your parking spot, make sure you look both ways to avoid an accident. If a person starts the drive off bad, they will be angry the whole way to their destination and won’t be concentrating on anything else.
Eating and drinking allows you to lose focus on what you are doing as well. Keep both of your hands on the steering wheel at all times. Eat of drink before you start your travels or wait until your at your destination.
The speed limits are on all roads for safety reasons. Research on each road determines the speed you are to go. Follow that precisely how they say. Avoid going slow so another driver doesn’t have to pass your vehicle. Avoid going fast so you do not have to pass another vehicle.
Road signs are vital for driving! Use them accordingly! Stop at stop signs, stoplights, cross walks. Avoid the frustration all together from fellow drivers. Obey the rules.
Turn signals are a major safety feature. They allow fellow drivers to know what destination you would like to be going, use them at all times to avoid accidental collisions!
If bad weather is approaching, avoid the roads as much as possible. Don’t risk your own life, let alone others.
Avoid, using cell phone, one of the number one causes of driving accidents. turn it on speaker phone or use a blue tooth. Tex ting is the worst one yet. Avoid that all together!
