Founded in 1913, the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester has collected a phenomenal collection of art from all areas and times. As a result of its mission to serve as a repository for great works of art, the Memorial Art Gallery’s collection now numbers over 11,000 objects and works of art.
The collection at the Memorial Art Gallery includes a number of famous works of art, from such well-known artists as Monet (the Gallery possesses three paintings,) a Rembrandt portrait, as well as pieces by Winslow Homer and numerous other artists from around the world. What truly sets this art museum apart, however, are the numerous pieces included in its collection of art from the ancient world, which currently includes pieces from Egypt, ancient China, Assyria, as well as numerous pieces from every other conceivable historical period.
This art museum in Rochester is constantly adding new pieces to its already-extensive collection. The Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. They are closed Monday, Tuesday, and major holidays. Admission to the gallery is $10 for adults, with decreasing rates for seniors and children, making this an ideal travel destination for those wishing to see a world-class art collection without the hefty price tag.
