Tithes. Such a controversial topic. So many ministries fail to speak of the tithes for several reasons, however, there is no reason acceptable to Christ. Tithing proved to be a huge mountain for me for a long time. I could hear the Pastor speaking on it often, however, to release it was truly a task for me.
As time progressed and the Word sifted in me and flooded out the foolishness, I learned the true meaning of tithing. The best description that I can give is what was given to me through a minister: Your job was never meant to be your source. Your job was only meant to be a means for you to get seed to plant. Now, in a literal sense, if you were given a pack of seed and you decided to throw them on the ground and watch the birds eat them up, eventually, you will have no seed left and your garden will only be a weed bearing lawn of dirt. Sure, those birds are pretty to watch, however, once they have consumed the seed, they will fly away, leaving you seedless. Shopping is that bird in your life. It consumes the seed and with no seed to plant, there will be no harvest to take in.
One thing that God also showed me over and over again through my friends were: I have never seen a tither suffering for money. Never. I had two friends that were (and still are) persistent and consistent tithers. Both of them lost their jobs, however, they only seemed to have more money afterwards! They shopped and they did things that I could not do as a worker. At the time, my job was my source, however, I knew that I had to pray and ask God to place in me an obedient spirit. In your life, you should pray that Father removes any and everything from your life that consumes your seed. It is then that God showed me the reason for the tithe. It was then that He showed me why I payed tithes on some Sundays, but others proved to be a struggle. It was then that I was able to see how the enemy had poisoned my mind into believing that those new shoes or that bill was more important than separating God’s money.
Does God need it? No. But, God requires the first fruits of all that we do. After all, we were given His First Fruit by the name of Jesus Christ. The human will is complex. If we do not learn to separate what is holy, we can never know the true definition of holy. For example, when I struggled with tithing, I kept telling myself that I would tithe this time. I would shop first, leaving the Lord’s money mixed with my money. After I’d payed bills, shopped a little, I would look at the anemic looking pile of bills in my purse and suddenly I would realize: I forgot to either pay a bill, buy something else I wanted, or I felt that I needed that money to survive until the next payday. Then, at church, I would put in a few dollars, hoping that no one would know of my evil deed. But, we all know that the Holy Ghost will convict you each and every time. What was I doing wrong? First off, I did not separate it. Secondly, I counted it. For each and every dollar that you make, you should go ahead and separate the tithe immediately. Tithing does not begin in the church, it begins in you. That’s why God said, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) This is why you should not count it as your own. Automatically, you should pre program yourself to count only what is yours. For example: Your salary this week is $1, 475. You should never ever think that you have $1,475. The first thing that you should do is subtract that 10% and your speech and thoughts should be, “I have $1, 327.50.” In your mind should also be a knowledge about the offering as well, knowing well that we are obligated to allow God to bless our man or woman of God through us. Happily, you should remove your seed even if the rest is going towards bill. Isn’t is sad how so many people calculate their bills out of their salaries, yet they refuse to do that for God.
Tithing is a reflection of your obedience. Disobedience should not be found in the body of Christ, but yet, it is. We learn to stop doing a lot of things that God does not approve of, yet many have some stronghold that keeps them bound. Somehow, the enemy has convinced many that if your obedience outweighs your disobedience, you are fine. We know Satan to be a liar and a deceiver, yet he still finds a way into your homes without having to climb through a window. He knocks at the doors of your heart and many of you are inviting him in.
Remember this: Where there is no seed, there is no harvest. During harvest season, many of us have swamped the garden looking for produce when we have not planted any seed. But, God can deliver you from that theiving heart, however, you have to give that problem to Him. Do not choose to be partially obedient because there is no such thing. You are either obedient or disobedient.
And ministers of the gospel: You have a responsibility to make sure that there is absolutely no door with those that you lead, for the enemy to come into. So many are afraid to speak of tithes and offerings because they are counting their members. Again, this is a deception tool that keeps you from doing what God wants. Allow God in your church to separate the tares from the holy harvest of saints. Teaching the truth only causes the tares to burn in the fire of conviction. But, keeping the truth away from the people invites the curse of disobedience into your sanctuary. If it’s God’s sanctuary, His Word should be taught in it’s entirety, but if it is your house, loaned to God for a moment, you will find that God will decline your invitation to visit. Wherever disobedience prevails, curses run rampart. Stop worrying about how many people will leave and disown your church and start blessing God for the fact that they are gone. It is all a matter of how you see each situation. From fleshly eyes, the numbers decline, however, what God sees is completely different. He sees a sanctuary of obedient and loving people and as such, the blessings will overflow. When others see how your congregation is thriving, they will want to know what your church is doing. God has divine ways to bring in more and like the tithes, when you invest your faith in Him, He will give you a return on your faith that is greater than your eyes and natural man can comprehend.
Now that He has given me an obedient heart, I have no need or want that is not met. (Note: Dues is man made and is found nowhere in the Bible. Be wise and give as God has commanded if you want to receive a return on your seed. The bible speaks of tithes and offerings, therefore, dues are only what the asker feels is due him/her. Give as you want, but know that we are blessed when we are counted righteous and not when we are just counted.)
