After the hurricane in Baton Rouge, Derringer was in his office looking over photos sent to him of President William Hickley. With all the crap he pulled, this was a new low. Being involved in the attack on The Statue of Liberty, along with The Earth-Martian War, and ignoring the hurricane the damaged it caused. This was something that did not surprise him, but pissed him off nonetheless.
These were photos of Hickley on his ranch in New Mexico. It had been where Hickley spent the last year or so. He should have been doing his duty, and conducted business at The White House. Instead, Derringer saw photos of him tending to his horses and cattle, along with laying back and sitting in a lawn chair. He clutched the photos in his hand, almost ready to crumble them up or throw them against the wall.
Hickley was the worst President we had in almost a century. Derringer knew there was no denying it, and yet there was nothing anyone could do about it. Public Enemy #1 was not some terrorist in The Middle East, or some visitor from another planet. He was the one in charge, the person Americans and the free world were supposed to be depending on. Yet no one could do that because he was a traitor and a back stabber.
”Son of a bitch!”
Derringer no longer knew what to think, everything kept getting worse and worse. At this point, there was no solution to the problem. There should be impeachment hearings, but he knew it was more than possible Hickley had Senators and Congressmen paid off. Derringer knew an impeachment with a president like Hickley would not get too far with getting show or some conspiracy started.
The President deserted the very people he was supposed to serve protect. He also sold them out a few times, and most likely would again. There was no way out, since he would remain in office for the next couple years. Derringer was so pissed when he got world Hickley was re-elected for a second term, after all the trouble he caused. He could not believe how stupid it was, a president the public hated, yet these same people re-elected him.
He did not know how in the world Hickley got elected unless his victory in the first election was somehow rigged. Derringer would not have been surprised, since Hickley was born into money, and his family still would be wealthy with or without politics. He would not put it passed Hickley at all. It was almost as if Derringer was discovering more and more that The President of The United States had no scruples at all.
Derringer looked once again at these more recent photos of President Hickley on his ranch in New Mexico with the file found in Roswell. A man who abandoned his duties at The White House for a vacation, and started a war to fulfill some old family bargain with some aliens. He then looked on Google to what more dirty secrets Hickley had in his closet. After he typed the words ”Dirty Secrets President William B. Hickley”.
The next thing he knew, there was a whole page filled with results claiming to have secrets on his military past. One link read ”Hickley’s Questionable Military Service”, and Derringer clicked on it. The website had a picture of him a younger Hickley in military uniform, seated next to what appeared to be an aircraft. Looking over these military record, Derringer discovered something that almost made him laugh.
In these records, he learned Hickley’s father provided for him to be enlisted into The National Guard to avoid being drafted in Virtnam. Hickley was also allowed to be a pilot, despite low test scores on his flight exam. As he read along, he learned Hickley did not finish his six year commitment to serve. Just like any rich kid spoiled by their parents, his rich family bought him everything and also, bailed him out of everything.
Derringer found it ironic how someone who is forcing Earth to go war with Mars to fulfill an old promise could not even bare to serve in Vietnam. Much less keep his own promise to service and duty. His excuse was that he wanted to attend Harvard, and of course, he was granted the discharge. Yet Derringer thought about how much his father had to do with his discharge. One from a military service he may have tried to cover up.
