As people age, their minds and physical capacity diminishes. Declining physical activity is a major indication of old age, and a good indicator of obesity and general mortality risk, according to a press statement by David Rollo, associate professor of biology at McMaster.
Many diseases are associated with the aging process, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, many cancers and inflammatory conditions. If medical science could find an effective way to delay aging it is possible that many diseases could be prevented or forestalled.
The McMasters researchers have found a specific formulation of supplements that looks promising. The ingredients of the formulation can be found in health supplements that can be purchased over the counter, but the exact formulation was not released. Key ingredients include vitamins B1, C, D, E, acetylsalicylic acid, beta carotene, folic acid, garlic, ginger root, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, green tea extract, magnesium, melatonin, potassium, cod liver oil, and flax seed oil.
Many of these supplements and ingredients can be purchased at the health food store or drug store, and already are known to have health benefits in addition to their potential anti aging properties.
The benefits of maintaining zestful living into later years has the potential to provide social and economic benefits beyond just extending the lifespan. “This holds great promise for extending the quality of life of “health span” of humans, ” according to David Rollo of McMasters University.
