Spring is all about colors, and the trend for spring 2010 is no different when it comes to fashion and makeup. There are many new spring makeup trends this year, everything from bold eyeliner, bright colorful eyes, to the “no makeup” look. My favorite makeup trend for this season by far is the “no makeup” look. I’m a low maintenance girl who doesn’t generally wear a lot of makeup to begin with, but since it’s the new trend that gives me all the more reason to go bare, face that is. So put your bronzers, heavy powder, foundation, and lip liners away, and let’s get naked.
The “no makeup” look is a very simple and clean one. Basically you’ll be using very little makeup. I have a light to medium complexion with golden undertones, so choose the coloring that best suits you. Before I apply any makeup, if at all, I always use a moisturizer with an SPF. I’ve been doing so since I was 15, and it’s why I can pass for a teenager when I’m really close to thirty. Aside from skin protection don’t forget to protect your lips with a lip balm that also contains an SPF. The products I favor are Neutrogena’s Visibly Even daily moisturize for my face, avoid the eye area, and Blistex Medicated Berry balm. I love Neutrogena’s Visibly Even daily moisturizer because it has essential soy, which helps reduce blotchiness and dark spots to even out your skin. It also has helioplex which protects my skin from UVA and UVB rays.
This next step can be skipped if you prefer, and that’s the eyeshadow. Before applying your shadow it’s always a good idea to prime them to keep them in place for all day wear. I like to use Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It’s Sephora’s best selling eyeshadow base/primer. I find that it works extremely well with even the cheapest eyeshadows. For eyeshadow color I would go with Maybelline’s Expertwear eye shadow in Champagne Fizz. This eyeshadow has a matte finish to it, and it’s a good color match for my skin tone. Sometimes I’ll skip the shadow, but on days when I don’t get enough sleep my eyelids can be a little dark. Evening out the color gives my eyes a nice clean, fresh look.
Once I’ve applied my shadow I sometimes use Neutrogena’s Illuminating Eye Reviver around my under eye. What this product does is reflect light and gives me a glowing look. I use it for days when I don’t get enough sleep. If this product doesn’t do it for you, try a concealer instead. The last touch I add to my eyes is a coat of mascara, and my favorite is Benefit’s Badgal Lash. I love the way it coats every single lash and fans it out. All that’s left to do now is sweep a little blush across your cheeks, just for a hint of color, and apply lipstick. For blush I like Hard Candy’s Blush Crush Baked blush in 126 ‘Pin Up’. It’s a nice soft, warm color. Plus I like the satin texture to it. For the lips I would go with a nude or mauve color, depending on your natural lip color. You can even just skip this step and use a clear lipgloss. My lips are naturally a pinkish-mauve color so I went with NYX Round lipstick in ‘Indian Pink’. It’s sort of an orange-pink hue, which to me looks a lot like peach. Peach lips is also trendy for this Spring.
All of the products that I’ve mentioned can be found at your local Wal-Mart, Target, drugstores, Sephora or ULTA. As I mentioned earlier, if you’re not the same coloring as me that’s okay, just change up the shades to fit your needs. The ‘no makeup’ look is one look that fits all. It’s all about showing your true face. Less coverup, and more of you. Best of all, since you face is basically naked that gives you more room to play with colors elsewhere, like your clothes and nails. Don’t be afraid to whip out those bright nail colors. Always remember that the most beautiful accessory is confidence.
