Social Networks on the internet are very popular and distinct in some ways from each other. They are usually Web sites that offer online social services for free or paid membership with extra benefits. Not all are famous or popular like Facebook or MySpace. But they do have something that my interest different people, worldwide.
My Year Book is one of those unusual Web sites that offer social networking. It is free of cost to join. You can also pay for extra service, such as, mass emailing to your 50,000 or more friends, for example, that you can accumulate through the sharing of information and ideas. This social network has a lot of younger people in their teens, late teens or early 20s. That does not mean that older people are not members or cannot join. As much as I know, all are welcome in accordance with the Web site owners Terms of Service.
At that Web site, you can post to your personal blog (or diary) or to My Mag. This is a group posting in a specific category and which is shown to the entire population at the Web site. Your personal blog posting is usually for your immediate friends on your list. There are many different games that you can participate in. There are what they call battles in which you can vote about different issues. For example, you can vote for the best pet, best eyes of a person, best looking person, best smile, best video and others. This may not be appealing to some people, but they are great social fun online for others. Then there is the famous lunch money concept that the Web site has and which is appealing to many. This just means that you are allotted a certain amount of money (not real cash) for personal use, such as to buy gifts to send to your friends on their birthdays. You can also earn extra and consistent free lunch money by logging-in daily and participating in your own way. The lunch money concept is from our school days, but it seems to be very useful for this Web site. Visit My Year Book.com for more details.
Another great social Web site is Gather.com where you can really earn real cash or money to do real everyday things, such as, shopping for small household items, clothes and gifts. Gather is one of my favorites because you can earn real money. It is a network for everyone to join for free. You can share a post like a blog content, photo or music. In doing so, you will earn Gather Points that can be redeem for gift certificates, cash or money payment to your PayPal account, for example. You can read more information at Gather.com/GatherPoints.jsp. At Gather, you can also email your collection of friends as a group of people, rather than one by one, as required on other networks. In other words, you can send just one email or message from your Gather account when you are logged-in, to all you friends at once. With some other networks, you have to pay for this service or do so one by one. That is, send a message to one friend at a time. At this network, you can also join online with others in social conferences and participate to earn more. Your participation will earn you more Gather Points and as such, more real money. If you are the kind of person who likes to wait until each year-end (such as, at Christmas) or at every 3-6 months to redeem your points, then this social network may just be for you.
Squidoo.com is one of those networks that you can create multiple lens (or journals) that suit your personal needs. For example, if you like pets, you can create one about pets, if you are in online business, you can create one about that. If you like entertainment issues, you can do the same for that. They have a large collection of people and different categories to post your topics from your lens or journals. You can earn cash or money and what they call Royalties from your online participation with them. When you accumulate the threshold amount, you can claim payment, for example, from a low US$5 payout via PayPal. Or you can decide to just have the earned cash sent to your favorite charity. Squidoo.com is very popular across many diverse ages, class and culture around the world. You will be able to meet many different and interesting people who may be able to assist you if you are in online business, for example, or just for social connections.
There are other very good social networks such as Friendster, Black Planet and Live Space. But those above are just the ones that are very popular with a large number of diverse people. They are different in their own way as a collection of people in social networking. The benefits members will receive will vary according to who you are (that is, base on your personality, since you may not like some things) what you do at the network, how consistently you participate and the extent of your online friendship network for support and business purposes.
