How many understand the danger in demonizing the insurance industry? Allow me to explain.
Realities will dictate that if Obamacare passes, in short order, five years or so, the private health insurance industry will be gone. That’s the fact. Here’s why. When the government system is set up so that an employer can pay a fine in place of providing health insurance to his employees, guess what? He will!
If the employer finds the fine is less than the cost of providing health care for his employees, whatcha think a businessman with a bottom line profit motive would do? No wonder Obamacare proposes reasonably small fines to employers for not giving their worker’s health care. Go figure.
So when employers opt for the smaller fine, what happens when a bunch of them do it? The formerly covered employees will be tossed into the public system. They will be covered, but now by government. Insurance companies will shut their doors. They cannot compete with government who prints money when they need it and has no profit obligation for any shareholders, for government, while it should be responsible to citizens, is in reality an ogre and will do as it sees fit. Prove me wrong – just one example will do fine, thank you. Let’s hear it.
How many folks ya think work for health insurance providers? What about all the individuals working in medical billing, transcription, etc? They will lose their jobs – bank on it! Wikipedia states “In 2004, U.S. health insurers directly employed almost 470,000 people at an average salary of $61,409,” not counting care providers. So in these times we need a half million more unemployed. Good plan! Now that is indeed PROGRESSIVE thinking! I am impressed.
This is the government route to single payer which Obama and progressives admit is their end goal. Forget their current denials, go back and listen to their words when they were wooing their followers. It’s all there on tape for the world to see and hear, yet it’s as if none of this ever existed.
Like Limbaugh says, what do ya think will happen when insurance companies MUST cover preexisting conditions no matter what? I will pay the fine for not having health insurance, and remember I pay $14,400 per year for my private health insurance, and when I get sick I will go immediately and purchase health insurance as long as it exists. Of course once the nation goes single payer I will be covered regardless, but until they go belly up, if they MUST cover ALL preexisting conditions, I will spend my cash on guns and motorcycles and buy it when I get sick. And THAT will insure that private health insurance becomes a memory.
When we hear progressives screaming about insurance companies’ profits and other lies, remember insurance companies have an average 3.8% profit margin. Does 3.8% seem too high? Remember, out of your monthly insurance premium goes the following: the actual cost of the medical service, room, and equipment for ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE POOL; the salaries of those 470K employees that work in the industry; the administrative costs and of course the accounting for all that money moving around. 3.8% profit. That is not remotely unreasonable, extravagant or immoral – at least in the real world it’s not, but to hear Obama and Pelosi, it’s the worst thing since killing the Jews – well, to a progressive it’s prolly worse than that whole Holocaust thing, am I correct there my lefty pals?
Lemme ask a common sense question. So you’re healthy, 35 years old, and you pay $200.00 a month for a private health insurance policy. And if tomorrow ya get cancer and the bill is $439,563.00, guess what? You’re covered. So for $200.00 a month ya got $439K worth of service and you feel yourself aggrieved? You’re an ass.
I do not feel abused and I pay $14,400 per year for only my wife and myself. Sure I wish it were cheaper, but then again, I grasp the free market, insurance, it’s purpose and worth and know that if I cheap out and something bad does happen, that’s it – not only is someone gravely ill, but then bankrupt as well and in damn short order. Is this not evident?
Sure I wish it were cheaper, but I don’t do that “wishin’ in one hand, crapping in the other” thing. Sorry.
Even if insurance companies did make high profits, and 3.8% is not high, but even if it were, does it make sense to force them out of business by government competing against them? That’s insanity, it’s socialism, and yep, it’s all those other “isms” too.
The reality is we are a nation under attack. The attack emanates from people who think all the other “isms” are better than “Americanism,” and my favorite “American Exceptionalism.”
I guess I need to accept that my opponents are not rational players operating under the same physics as I. They have an amorphous truth that is in fact pornographic. Ever heard “I can’t define pornography, but I know it when I see it?” In my opinion the current health care reform proposal as it stands now is clearly not demonstrating any socially redeeming value, and isn’t that sorta the decided upon and acceptable definition of pornography? And not only is the proposal as it stands obscene, but the discussed methods of making it reality is even more so.
