In this tough economy, we are saving money every way we can. I have found that some of my biggest savings come while doing my weekly grocery shopping. Let’s face it, the price of food keeps going up, and I have started to buy the store brands to save some dough.
Overall, I have been extremely happy with the store brands, and one of my main purchases lately has been found at my local Fred Meyer store, and it’s the Kroger Deli Thin Sliced Smoked Ham.
Like many other brands of lunch meats, the Kroger Deli Thin Sliced Smoked Ham comes in a small clear tub with a light blue colored lid. The lid has a nice notched corner for easy lifting.
Inside the container, the lunch meat is packaged in another clear plastic bag, and between the two this meat remains very fresh.
This 9 ounce container of Kroger Deli Thin Sliced Smoked Ham was on sale for only $3.00, which was a good price. I compared other brands ounce for ounce, and the Kroger was the best value at the time this was purchased.
The label says that the ham contians natural juices and that it is 97% fat free. I can find no other nutritional information on the package, which may be a factor for some people. If you want to use the plastic container again for storing leftovers or such, the label peels off extremely easy, leaving no sticky residue on the container.
This is indeed deli style, thin sliced ham, and it tastes great. I am enjoying the last of it in a whole wheat sandwich as I type this review, and it is a quality product. There is no salty taste, and the smoked flavor is rich and flavorful.
According to the website “the daily plate”, Kroger Deli Thin Sliced Smoked Ham contains only 60 calories in five slices of ham. Total fat grams are low, as one might expect from a product that claims to be 97% fat free. There are only 1.5 total grams of fat in one serving. Saturated fat is very low at 0.5 grams, and the best news is there are none of those unhealthy trans fats!
They contain 30 mg of cholesterol, 580 mg of sodium (a bit high), 1 gram of carbohydrates, no fiber, only one gram of sugar, and a healthy portion of protein with 10 grams!
From now on, I will be watching the sale prices of deli and lunch meats at my store, but the Kroger brand will be right among my top choices. It tastes great, is high in protein and low in fat, and fits perfectly into my diet plans. A great value.
