As Sandra Bullock accepted her Best Actress award for The Blind Side at the Oscars in 2010, there was one man in particular she wanted to thank. Her husband Jesse James had tears in his eyes as Bullock told him, the audience and the world’s press how much she loved him. At other recent ceremonies she’d told James: “I love you so much and you’re really hot and I want you so much.” “There’s no surprise that my work got better when I met you.”
But as Warner Brothers announced just weeks later that Bullock was pulling out of the London premier of The Blind Side, it turns out that James, like the Oscar-winning Bullock, is a bit of an actor himself. While having an 11-month affair with 20-something heavily tattoo-ed ‘model’ Michelle ‘Bombshell’ McGee, he managed to convince Bullock that he was a devoted husband. McGee says he also convinced her that he and his wife were separated.
In truth the Sandra Bullock-Jesse James marriage was never – ever – going to last. Possibly the only person who thought it was a good match was Bullock herself.
The heavily tattoo-ed James, former bodyguard to heavy metal groups like ‘Slayer’, CEO of West Coast Choppers and former host of Monster Garage on the Discovery Channel has the kind of CV that one can see might interest a woman like Courtney Love or, well, Ms Tattoo-ed Bombshell McGee, but not an innocent, clean-living tomboy like Bullock. He’s a rough diamond without the diamond. A charming villain without the charm.
And clearly Bullock, though rich and famous which attracts many charlatans, is simply not his type either. His second wife, Janine Lindermulder, made a tawdry living in porn films and graduated to ‘directing’ them. Like McGee, and like James himself, she’s covered in hideous multi-coloured tattoos. It’s pretty clear that when it comes to women, James likes his women to be what some people call “strong meat”. And Bullock, despite her surname, is much more “eat your greens and, oops, don’t forget to floss”.
McGee, who told In Touch Weekly that she called James her ‘Vanilla Gorilla’ during their steamy extra-marital affair and believed he and Bullock were separated when they began having sex, acknowledges that she’s more James’s type than Bullock ever was:
“I’m a little more edgy than Sandra obviously. I like motorcycles and I think we maybe had a lot more in common than she did with him.”
She got that right. In fact she claimed that while Bullock was away in her movie world at the MTV Awards in May 2009, James was at home in his world of choppers, tattoos and ‘edgy’ ‘models’ . Specifically, he was in bed with McGee, having sex, while glancing at Bullock on the TV screen.
McGee says she and James generally had sex in secret at his office but one day when they were out together they ran into mutual friends – at a tattoo convention naturally – and the conversation and James’s embarrassment made it clear he was still married. “It was awkward” she said. “He knew he was caught.”
Whether one’s inclined to believe Michelle McGee or not when she says she thought Bullock and James were separated, there’s one truth which emerges in this story. It’s that Bullock and James belong in different worlds. Sandra Bullock belongs in films and film industry awards ceremonies. Jesse James belongs in tattoo conventions. And in bed with tattoo-ed porn stars and ‘models’. The next, and last, space these two should share frankly is the divorce court.
