Rosie O’Donnell slams Jay Leno in another celebrity Team O’Brien outcry. On the heels of the Jimmy Kimmel rip on Leno’s 10 @ 10, the outspoken O’Donnell said, “If you’re privileged enough to drive the bus, you should say, ‘Thank you’ and drive it to the best of your ability, and when it’s time for them to hire a new driver, you should say ‘Thank you for allowing me to drive this as long as I did’ and pass the keys to the new guy with red hair, and not try to flatten his tires before he even gets going,” as reported at Yahoo News.
Is it just sour grapes on the part of Rosie O’Donnell?
As reported at Yahoo News, O’Donnell revealed on her blog that Leno did not want her to substitute for him when he was the host of The Tonight Show. Did that offend O’Donnell enough for her to hold a grudge, causing her to make the statement in support of O’Brien? The question is – does it really matter? Whether O’Donnell holds a grudge against Leno or not, her statement in support of Conan O’Brien has hit the media. The damage has been done.
At least two high profile celebrities have given it to Jay Leno. Who’s next to wear the Team O’Brien t-shirt?
Rosie O’Donnell slams Jay Leno. Jimmy Kimmel slams Jay Leno. Chances are more celebrities will come out in defense of Conan O’Brien when they see that others are brave enough to do it. Although the public can have an impact on NBC’s decision to move Conan O’Brien’s time slot ahead to make room for Jay Leno to go back into it, it could be argued that enough high profile celebrities can have even more of an impact. Not only can their voices be heard in mainstream media, they have the power to influence the public to take the time to write into NBC. Team high profiled celebrities with the public and Team O’Brien can outmatch Team Leno.
Why Jay Leno may want to say, “Okay, let’s just forget it.”
The ratings for The Jay Leno Show are down, and NBC hopes to improve Leno’s ratings by moving him into Conan O’Brien’s spot that O’Brien now holds with The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. However, with Rosie O’Donnell slamming Jay Leno and other celebrities, like Jimmy Kimmel, voicing their opinions, Leno may want to stop the move.
Not everyone is in love with Rosie O’Donnell. She has baggage of her own that has turned off some members of the public. However, there’s enough Conan O’Brien fans to make the move a messy one. Pushing O’Brien out of his spot has the strong possibility of further hurting Leno’s ratings, to the point of no return, and that’s certainly not the goal for NBC.
