Cover Girl has come up with a great product with this last one. It is called Outlast Lipstain and resembles a magic marker. Drew Barrymore has been the spokesperson on television for this product and while it won’t ever make your lips as pouty as hers, it does live up to some of the other promises.
It lasts, for one. I have it in three different shades. Red, pink, and mauve, and the mauve is turning out to be my favorite, so far. It gives my lips a blush of color and truly does last for a long time. For an example, I applied it yesterday prior to going out to dinner with my husband, and it lasted through the meal, and he commented several hours later that my lipstick was still on. For me, this is really remarkable, because I usually don’t have much luck with lipstick lasting. It gets eaten off, wiped off, kissed off, etc. and this is the first product I have found that can outlast me.
It comes in a package that looks just like a marker, and the tip is like that of a marker which takes a little getting used to when applying to your lips. You have to color in your lips after lining them with the color. It does go on quickly and they have given it a nice fruity taste. One word of caution, however. When I was putting the red color on for the first time, I accidentally smudged some on my hand, and that smudge lasted for hours, so be very careful when applying. I have a feeling that any coloring outside of the lines may be problematic in removing. Perhaps a little makeup remover would take care of the problem, though.
With some experimentation I have found that the lipstain is not easily transferrable during a kiss, stays on during eating, does not come off on cups or other dinnerware. While Cover Girl makes the claim that it can last up to eight hours, perhaps on some people it will, but on me, it would be a miracle, but for it to last even four hours was a nice surprise.
The red I bought is a bright, vivid red; definitely not for a shy person. The pink is also not a shy pink either. It is a very pretty shade, but has red overtones. They have quite a selection to choose from, but I just haven’t had the chance to try them all, yet. Once the color has dried on your lips it feels like there is nothing on them at all. It is a matte finish so I do like to add a little gloss for an evening look, but overall, I think this is one of the best products Cover Girl has come out with over the past several years, at least in lip wear.
I bought mine at my local grocery store, so I am sure it can be found for a smaller price elsewhere, but I paid $7.99 for each marker. I have paid much more for lipsticks at high dollar department store brands and have been much less satisfied. This is one product that is a bargain and one that lives up to the marketing claims. I give it a 10 out of 10.
