Prom 2010 Makeup Trends

by tinyswot

You have found the perfect prom dress for Prom 2010 now it is time to make sure that your makeup looks as flawless as your dress. There are several makeup trends that are popular for the 2010 prom season. They include: smoky eyes with nude lips, red lipstick with neutral eyes, matte skin and blue eyeshadow. Smokey eyes and nude lips is the sexiest look for prom. This article will provide you with some tips for achieving this hot look.

Smokey eyes – There are five items that you will need in order to achieve the smoky eye look. They are: eye primer, eyeliner, light base color of eyeshadow, darker eyeshadow and mascara.

Step one: Apply eye primer to both eyelids and brow area. Eye primer enables your eye makeup to go on easier and to last longer. A great eye primer to try is Lorac’s Behind the Scenes Eye Primer. This product is available at Sephora and costs $20.

Step two: Apply eyeliner to upper lash line with the line thicker in the middle of the eye. Smudge. I prefer a black or charcoal eyeliner pencil but many are using eyeliners in shades of deep blue, green and even purple. Also eyeliner pencils are not the only eyeliners to use. Bobbi Brown has created a new long-wear gel eyeliner which works like a liquid eyeliner but is much easier to use. Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in caviar ink can be found at Neiman Marcus and costs $21.00. If you want to stay with a pencil I recommend Bare Escentuals Buxom Insider Eyeliner with built in sharpener which you can purchase for just $14.00 at Sephora.

Step three: Apply a light base color to eyelid and brow area. I like to use a shimmery cream or light taupe color.

Step four: Apply a darker color to the crease of the eye and blend.

Step five: Apply mascara. I like to first use an eyeliner curler to curl eyelashes and then apply two coats of a thick black mascara, waiting a few minutes between coats. My favorite mascara is Nars Larger than Life Lengthening Mascara. Which is available for $25.00 at Neiman Marcus.

Sephora makes a wonderful smoky eyes palette which has all of the products (with the exception of the eye primer) for creating beautiful smoky eyes. The palette which sells at Sephora stores for $50.00 contains four shadows, a black eyeliner pencil, gradual volume mascara in black and a double sided sponge tip applicator.

Dramatic smoky eyes should always be paired with neutral lips. After applying your eye makeup follow up by applying a neutral shade of lipstick to your lips. While I like to use gloss I prefer not using gloss when at formal occasions where there will be pictures taken. There are many nude lipsticks on the market today. See my article entitled “The Ten Best Nude Lipsticks for Spring 2010” for a list of some great ones to try.
