More than one person this year is making a New Year’s resolution to change the look of something. A simple coat of paint can make a world of difference. With the help of Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore and some of my own brainstorming, here’s a list of some hot paint colors heading into a New Year and a New Decade.
Forsythia Blossom – This yellow color is predicted to be the hottest color of the coming year. This sunny color reminds one of bright spring blossoms. Olympia Paint exclusively makes this color that once thought of as an accent color. This trendy color will be a winner in 2010.
Cedar Green – Greens are hot and Cedar Green is real hot. Cedar Green is popping up in everything from hats to furniture, and siding. That means cedar green paint will be on the walls and in the halls. Greens are versatile and Cedar Green is thought to be the most versatile of the lot.
Slate – Slate is a color that has been around since the 1700’s. Slate is trending upward because many think it is the color of technology. Slate is a common color for the exterior shells of computers. Slate says bold and competent. Slate is a popular choice for dens and reading rooms.
Aqua – Not blue, but Aqua. Aqua is a shade of cyan. This color is exactly half way between green and blue of the color scale. It will rank as one of the most popular blues of 2010. Aqua is thought to be cool. Perfect for a kitchen or sun room. Aqua is now more than a seasonal color. In auto racing, an aqua flag advises a car to yield to faster traffic behind, so don’t look now aqua is on the move.
Copper Metallic – What could be finer than a blend of copper and metallic? Not much, so this color is going to stick for 2010 and beyond. It couldn’t be that bad, since I painted the waiting room at my office this color. It makes a statement, but I’m not sure what that statement is. Still it’s a color that stands out.
Majestic Violet – The color of a beautiful gemstone. A popular color for clothing, it is now moving on to your paintbrush. This color is on the move because not only is it clear and crisp, it radiates. Energy packed and full of life, how can you beat that?
Mango Punch – Mango Punch says fun. A Benjamin Moore color that is popular in children’s play rooms has been gaining in popularity. It’s orangy, but it’s an easy to look at orange. It’s one of the bright colors that livens up an environment, and brings a smile to your face.
Pacific Palisades – A light blue. But not too light, this color makes us think of the ocean, calm and serene. The stress of everyday life is tough, and when people was to unwind they prefer to do in a room or environment where relaxing colors dominate. To me Pacific Palisades is a relaxing choice for color, and blues are making a comeback in 2010.
Steel wool – You know what steel wool is, well look at it and embrace that color. Another Benjamin Moore color that is clean and crisp. One painter remarked, “It’s a color that looks nice in everything from a kitchen to a bedroom.” I think colors like this will take off since home owners are going to want a clean and upscale look heading into the next decade.
Sterling – A glossy silver, sterling is designed to be diverse. When you can’t decide what color to use, designers recommend sterling or a color close to it. The gloss is nice, and 2010 furniture color choices go well with sterling.
