I’m starting to think my wife should be the one writing this weekly column. Once again, she had a better weekend last weekend than me; picking 12 of the 16 games correctly to my 8 games. Even the coin toss did better than me, with an 9-7 finish.
This is the wrong time for me to be struggling too. It’s the time of year when teams that have clinched their playoff spot start resting their players and teams with a losing record start giving up because they are thinking about next year. In other words, things could get tricky over the final three weeks.
Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars – This is one of those tricky games I was referring to. Normally, I would pick the undefeated Colts. Normally, I would pick Jacksonville because the Colts (a team that now has home field advantage in the playoffs) have nothing more to play for. But, it does sound like the starters will at least play in this divisional game. Colts win.
My Wife’s Pick: Colts
Coin Toss: Jaguars
Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints – The Cowboys are desperate; which makes them dangerous. But the Saints lock up home field advantage with a win and Vikings loss; meaning they still have plenty to play for. Saints win.
My Wife’s Pick: Saints
Coin Toss: Cowboys
New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills – The last time these two teams met, the Patriots won 25-24 at home. The Bills could pull off an upset this time around but I think New England will win by a larger margin this time around. Patriots
My Wife’s Pick: Patriots
Coin Toss: Patriots
Arizona Cardinals at Detroit Lions – The best thing the Lions can do at this point is make sure Matthew Stafford doesn’t play another down this season. Let him start fresh and healthy next year. Cardinals win.
My Wife’s Pick: Cardinals
Coin Toss: Cardinals
Miami Dolphins at Tennessee Titans – The Dolphins are still in the AFC playoff hunt with a 7-6 record. But, depending how things shape up this week, the Titans might be making a post season run too. They just need to win. Titans win.
My Wife’s Pick: Dolphins
Coin Toss: Titans
Cleveland Browns at Kansas City Chiefs – My wife asked me how she is supposed to pick when both teams are so bad. It was a good question. I’m going to go with the team that just beat the defending Super Bowl champs. Browns win.
My Wife’s Pick: Chiefs
Coin Toss: Chiefs
Houston Texans at St. Louis Rams – I underestimated the Texans last weekend. I won’t this week. Texans win.
My Wife’s Pick: Texans
Coin Toss: Texans
Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets – The Jets proved last week they could win without their starting quarterback. But, they also beat the Buccaneers. Falcons win.
My Wife’s Pick: Jets
Coin Toss: Jets
San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia Eagles – Should we be surprised that Philadelphia now holds the lead in the NFC East? Eagles win.
My Wife’s Pick: Eagles
Coin Toss: 49ers
Chicago Bears at Baltimore Ravens – There are two reasons why I’m picking Baltimore in this one. First, they are still in the playoff chase and the Bears are pretty much eliminated now. Second, they have a better defense. Ravens win.
My Wife’s Pick: Ravens
Coin Toss: Ravens
Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos – I’m almost tempted to pick the Raiders this weekend because the Broncos have a tendency to choke whenever they seem to finally be rolling along. But, I have a hard time doing that. Broncos win.
My Wife’s Pick: Broncos
Coin Toss: Broncos
Cincinnati Bengals at San Diego Chargers – It’s hard to pick against the Chargers; especially when they are having so much late season success. But, I’m going to do just that. Bengals win.
My Wife’s Pick: Chargers
Coin Toss: Bengals
Green Bay Packers at Pittsburgh Steelers – If I’m Mike McCarthy, I have to be concerned with the offense’s tendency to keep opposing teams in the game simply by settling for a field goal instead of a touch down (when they don’t miss the field goal, that is). But, fortunately for him, the defense makes enough plays to make up for that; which is why Green Bay is still a playoff contender. Packers win.
My Wife’s Pick: Packers
Coin Toss: Packers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks are absolutely horrible whenever they play on the road. Good thing this game is at home. Seahawks win.
My Wife’s Pick: Seahawks
Coin Toss: Buccaneers
Minnesota Vikings at Carolina Panthers – The Vikings got the win last week and are in the playoffs. But, shouldn’t the coaching staff be concerned with Brett Favre’s 3 interceptions and 76.9 passer rating over the past two weeks? Vikings win.
My Wife’s Pick: Panthers
Coin Toss: Vikings
New York Giants at Washington Redskins – The Redskins are starting to show a bit more life late in the season but the Giants have too much to play for at this point. Giants win.
My Wife’s Pick: Giants
Coin Toss: Giants
My Overall Record: 130-79 (.622)
My Wife’s Overall Record (since Week 7): 72-46 (.610)
Coin Toss (since Week 11): 37-27 (.578)
