The first commercial for Sony PlayStation’s motion controller, PlayStation Move, features punches thrown (literally) and is sure to fuel console wars. PlayStation went on to make fun of both Natal and Wii in its latest PlayStation Move commercial.
PlayStation Move is Sony PlayStation’s stab at a motion controller device, similar to the Nintendo Wii’s motion controlling Wii-mote controller. The PlayStation Move was officially named the “PlayStation Move” just about two weeks ago and sparks are already flying between the feuding gaming consoles.
Recently PlayStation released its first commercial for the PlayStation Move and instead of trying to win customers over with promises and butt kissing, PlayStation went for the jugular of both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360’s Project Natal motion controller devices.
The first PlayStation Move commercial features Kevin Butler, a man from the future month of November 2010; which is after the PlayStation Move’s launch. The commercial is set in an office-like building where Kevin Butler parades around showcasing the future – of gaming, that is. The future Kevin Butler in this PlayStation Move commercial looks down on the present day us and mocks the way we play motion controller device gaming.
Kevin walks into a room that features a young lad playing Motion Fighter using the PlayStation move, where Kevin takes a jab (pun intended) at the lack of the Nintendo Wii’s depth perception and goes even further to make fun of the scratchy like girly fighting motion of Nintendo Wii motion boxing games – probably the funniest part of this commercial.
This commercial also tries to wreck the Xbox 360’s motion controlling device, Project Natal before it gets started. In another room featuring a young guy playing a first-person shooter, Kevin Butler goes on to make note that the PlayStation Move has a special feature called “buttons” – an obvious poke at the Xbox 360’s Project Natal’s lack thereof. The commercial makes fun of Project Natal, stating that buttons are important for just about any game genre except ones where catching a “big red ball” is the only requirement.
The low blows thrown in the first PlayStation Move commercial are humorous, but the PlayStation Move’s motion controller isn’t free from being made fun of. I wonder how the two motion controller device consoles (Nintendo Wii and Project Natal) will respond to the punches thrown by Kevin Butler in the first PlayStation Move commercial.
