In the summer of 2009, Merlin made its magical debut on NBC. This was a new version of a classic story being told through the eyes of a teenage Merlin. At the end of the 13-part series the info on my TV read “Season Finale” not “Series Finale.” But there was no indication that Merlin would return for a second season…..until now.
Syfy has worked their magical charm once again and resurrected Merlin which NBC had cancelled. The basic cable rights for all 26 episodes of Merlin were acquired by Syfy from U.K. based FremantleMedia. This includes 13 episodes of the unaired second season.
The concept for this younger version of Merlin came from across the pond (U.K.) where it first aired on BBC One in 2008 and has since aired in more than 30 countries. A third season of Merlin is set to appear in the U.K. in September 2010.
Merlin will premiere on Syfy in the U.S. in April 2010.
