What pregnant woman wouldn’t love some pampering in her life? Being pregnant is fantastic and exciting, but it can also be exhausting, especially if you also have a career and/or other children. It can be particularly important to indulge in the occasional luxury when you’re expecting.
Let’s face it though. Most of us can’t afford to go on great vacations before the baby’s born (aka babymoons) or treat ourselves as often as we would like to. Life goes on, and doesn’t always make it easy to treat yourself. I remember when I was pregnant with my second daughter, for example. My husband and I really wanted to take a mini-break to Paris. It was the perfect time for a getaway; our older daughter was old enough to leave for just the weekend, and we knew that with a new baby on the way we wouldn’t have many opportunities to do things with just the two of us for awhile. Then our car broke down and our Paris fund went to the mechanic.
No matter what your budget is, though, it’s important to take some time for yourself. Here are some getaways and treats that are in the reach of almost everyone’s budget.
My first recommendation is something that I loved to do when I was pregnant: go swimming. Swimming pools are a little slice of luxury. Whether you can afford a membership to a nice spa pool or can only manage the occasional trip to the YMCA pool, going swimming is the perfect getaway from stress during pregnancy. It is physically great for you, and very relaxing. Just letting the water support your (and the baby’s) weight for an hour can really help you to feel better both physically and mentally.
If you have the time and budget for a bit more luxury, why not go to a spa? Spending a few hours at a nice spa can leave you feeling like you’ve just had a vacation without having to travel or unpack. Many spas have specialist treatments for expecting mothers, so you can get specific pregnancy massages (great if you’ve had problems with back pain!). Or you can just pamper yourself with another relaxing treatment. Check with your spa if they have any specific advice for pregnant women. Taking a little getaway to a spa can leave you feeling beautiful, relaxed and sexy throughout your pregnancy.
If you can’t afford to go to a spa, then why not make one at home? Schedule a few uninterrupted hours to soak your feet, have a relaxing bath, etc. This is a great time to either get your partner to spoil you (my husband painted my toenails for me while I was pregnant, and I loved it), or to have a girly night in. Rent a good chick flick and do face masks together or something equally frivolous and girly. Even without going away, you can have a great and relaxing time.
Even if you can’t afford to go away on a vacation, you can still have relaxing getaways during your pregnancy. Add a little luxury to your life by doing simple things like going swimming and treating yourself to the spa (even if it’s your home-made version of a spa).
