Once again the Apple iPhone is rumored to be coming to the Verizon Wireless network. The latest rumor indicates that a 4G version of the popular Apple iPhone will be coming to the Verizon Wireless network and while this time around it is indeed expected that the iPhone will be available on carriers other than AT&T, namely Verizon Wireless, is it too late for the iPhone to make as big of an impact on Verizon?
Since Android based devices have been on the market, the buzz surrounding the iPhone is not as robust as it once was. There was a time when the iPhone dominated the market as the premier smartphone. However, since Android devices have been populating the market, there is more competition for the iPhone. Even Microsoft is getting into the action with a new and improved version of its mobile operating system, dubbed Windows Phone 7 Series.
One of the major concerns for consumers when making the decision to purchase an iPhone was the unreliability of the AT&T network. Now, users may get the choice to get the beloved iPhone on a more reliable network. But, with devices like Google’s Nexus One, Motorola’s Droid, HTC’s HD2, and the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series, the appeal of the iPhone on Verizon becomes less of a factor.
Many of the premier smartphone devices are already on the Verizon network and users are quickly purchasing these smartphones with great satisfaction. The Nexus One has not performed as well as experts liked, but it is still causing a stir in the smartphone market, primarily because it is powered by the widely popular open-source Android operating system. The Motorola Droid has surpassed expectations and has proven to be a direct competitor to the iPhone.
There is no question that the addition of the iPhone to the Verizon network will help iPhone sales, but based on the timing of putting the device on the Verizon network, sales may not be as great as they might have been before the inception of smartphone devices like the Nexus One, Droid, or HTC devices. Many consumers who have been holding out for the iPhone on the Verizon has already been lured into purchasing another smartphone device.
The bottom line is that consumers who are up for a contract renewal when the iPhone is released to Verizon will more than likely consider purchasing a subsidized version, while consumers who have recently purchased a different smartphone, and are satisfied, will not go through the hassle of getting the iPhone. While the iPhone is still a great device and is still the most popular smartphone on the market, its dominant days are over and now has better competition in the smartphone market.
