Illvelo is a Japanese only port that is for the Wii. It is very popular in Japan and has a lot of great features and styles that make the game really stand out. With an old school style of game play and a unique concept of graphics, does this Japanese import have what it takes to appeal to American gamers?
From what I’ve experienced, I can’t really tell what the story is. With games like this I usually push aside these kinds of things and try to focus on the game play. If you really want to understand the story I suggest you read up on your Japanese and pay real close attention to the comic book like cut-scenes throughout the games or look it up online. I’m pretty sure it’ll be hilarious though!
Game Play 4/5
Here is where these types of games shine. For starters, this game plays like any old arcade shooter out there. You fly some sort of ship, grab items and useless points, and dodge endless waves of enemies and fire. The thing that makes the game play really stand out is the way they present themselves. There are lots of difficulty modes that you need to unlock but you won’t get bored too easily with its great and funny looking graphics
Yes! Illvelo shines in this category. The way things are presented and how you awkwardly progress through stages fighting bosses like giant faces and using weapons like a giant sun face bomb is great! The graphics have an anime cel-shaded type feel to it and it just looks so refreshing.
Foreign inspired music and funny sound effects is the second great thing about this Wii title. From the title screen all the way to the credits, you’ll probably have a funny look on your face trying not to smile from hearing all these crazy sounds. It’s very fun
Once you’ve done all the modes and unlocked all that you have, there’s not really much to do then go back to the stages you liked the most and get a better high score. There’s no multiplayer!
Illvelo for the Wii is a Japanese import that makes arcade shooters worth playing again. The graphics are nice and wonderful to look at and will give you a nice feeling inside. Even though the game is a shooter, it takes itself pretty lightly with lots of comedy and isn’t too difficult once you get used to it. For new players to these types of genres there is a quick tutorial on the basics. I recommend this game fully to anyone looking for a Wii game to pass the time.
