Its easy to donate your hair to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a non profit agency providing hair to children who have had to endure hair loss due to chemotherapy and other childhood diseases.
You don’t have to go to a special salon in order to donate to Locks of Love. You can go to anyone as long as you follow the websites guidelines for hair donation. It is encouraged to go to your own favorite hair salon as you are already familiar with them and they already know how you like your hair done.
So what are their guidelines for hair donation you might ask? According to their website they are listed as follows:
We accept both colored and permed hair.
Even if the hair has been cut years ago we still accept it as long as it is in a ponytail or braid and at least ten inches long.
Ten inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for hairpieces.
Curly hair is acceptable as long as when pulled straight it measures the minimum ten inches.
Layered hair may be divided into ponytails as long as the hair is at least ten inches.
Hair that is not acceptable for donation is as follows:
Bleached hair (due to a chemical reaction during the manufacturing process). including highlighted. If you are not sure please ask your hair stylist. Special note: if the hair was bleached years ago and has completely grown out it is fine to donate.
Hair that has been swept off of the floor is not acceptable.
Hair that has been shaved off and not in a ponytail is not acceptable.
Dreadlocks are not acceptable.
You are not required to use a specific form for your donation, but if you wish to use one they do have one available on their website that is available for download. If you choose not to use the form just write your name and address on a full sized piece of paper and include it in the envelope with your hair donation.
In order to donate your hair you should review the websites guidelines:
Hair must be at least ten inches measured from tip to tip.
Hair must be in a ponytail or braid BEFORE it is cut.
Hair should be clean and completely dry before mailing it in.
How to mail your donation:
Place your ponytail or braid inside of a plastic bag (zip lock style bags work great for this purpose) and then place the plastic bag inside of a padded envelope. Please include your name and address with your donation.
