Merry Christmas dear readers, and a Happy New Year.
Enjoy the holiday season this year, in fact, relish it as it might be the last pleasant one for a long time. Thanks to the U.S. Senate, which now has the 60 votes needed to pass the health care legislation, our taxes are about to go through the ceiling while the economy goes into free fall. Those among us who still have jobs at this time next year might find they cannot afford to celebrate Christmas the way they are accustomed to; those without jobs will have very little to enjoy at all. How’s that hope and change working for you?
In the wee hours of Monday morning Harry Reid called for a test vote to secure allegiances to the Democrat health care plan. All 58 members of his party, along with the Senate’s 2 “independents”, voted in favor of the legislation. All 40 Republicans voted against it.
Surprised? I’m not.
While the neophytes were talking about Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, and some of the other hold-outs, I knew it was just a matter of time before their votes were secured. You see, in Washington everything is for sale. Mr. Nelson for example, knows full well the abortion restriction concessions he was able to get out of Reid will not stand up when the House and Senate bills are reconciled. For him the issue was never about abortion as such. He held out for two reasons: first, to be able to go back to his district next fall and claim he took a stand against federally funded abortion and second, to win millions of dollars and perks for his state. In other words, he sold his vote to Harry Reid and the Democrat party like Judas sold his allegiance to the high priests of old.
Mr. Nelson, do you betray us with a kiss?
And the rest of you so-called “leaders” on Capitol Hill, dare you continue to stand behind the bully pulpit claiming to work for the people? I am not politically correct, I don’t care what the rest of the world thinks, I will say it like it is: YOU ARE DESPICABLE, FILTHY, LIARS! You will mortgage the future of your children and grandchildren just to secure your own power and legacy. You will plunder an already weak economy, violate the Constitution and your oaths of office, strip Americans of their liberty, and do so with an arrogance and condescension that makes Karl Marx look like an altar boy.
I can say this much to you people in Washington, you owe your recent triumphs to Thomas Dewey and the National Education Association. You ought to send the NEA a nice big “thank you” for successfully dumbing down American students since the turn of the 20th century, to the point that the majority of adults and young adults are too constitutionally illiterate to understand what you are doing. Come to think of it, knowing how you work I’m sure the NEA has a ton of pork-barrel spending headed their way.
Nice job.
For the rest of us ordinary, Main St. citizens now is not the time to panic or quit. Now is the time to start working on next year’s mid-term elections with the goal of cleaning out the House and Senate completely. If you have ever thought about running for federal office now is the time to do so, on a platform of rolling back what the current Congress and Administration have done. The rest of us need to turn off the idiot box, say no the all the foolish, time-wasting leisure activities, and start working our tails off to get morally and ethically sound candidates elected.
Now is the time for the Rush Limbaughs, Sean Hannity’s, and Bill O’Reilly’s of the world to do more than just talk about the problems in Washington. You guys and your friends have the financial resources and clout we lack to lead a national conservative revolt. I’m a capitalist; I’m thrilled for you in your achievements and the financial reward that comes form them. But what good is your wealth going to be when tax rates once again hit 70%? If you’re going to lose your wealth anyway, why not use it to fund a conservative revolution? If the revolution succeeds you’ll regain it all again in a rebounding economy.
Now is the time for politically apathetic Americans to wake up to the fact that the mess we find ourselves in has indeed been caused by voter apathy. I have been encouraging people to vote every year since I was in my teens, and you know what the most common reason is I hear for people not voting? They believe their vote won’t change anything. That’s only true if enough people share your opinion or if you vote but then don’t hold your elected officials accountable. If every eligible American voted, followed by phone calls and letters to their representatives, finished by a willingness to vote bad politicians out of office, we would see such a quick transformation it would make your head spin. Ultimately, the government does what it does because we the people allow them to do it.
It’s time for Christian pastors and Bible teachers to throw off the political correctness and adopt the attitudes of Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Hosea. For all the “love” preaching we have endured since the 60s, the Christian Church in America has lost its way in being the moral guidepost it is supposed to be. If we will not actively stand up and oppose wickedness in high places, how can we expect the government or the citizenry do behave any differently? As a full-time pastor myself, I do believe in the love and grace of God, and I speak about it regularly, but I also believe in the holiness and righteousness of God. He does expect a certain type of behavior from his people; a life that shines the brilliant light of Jesus rather than following the dim flashes of the world. One thing we Christians seem to have forgotten is that Jesus did always those things that were pleasing to his Father. How can we claim to followers of Jesus when we live like pagans?
It is time the mainstream media is put out of business. Not by legislation or Presidential fiat, but by the American people refusing to purchase their products. It’s time to cancel newspaper subscriptions, turn off the nightly news, and start looking to the alternative media for the truth. The mainstream media has long since abandoned traditional journalism in favor of the yellow variety, and the problem is so pervasive at the institutional level, reforming the industry would be nearly impossible. Putting them out of business is the only way to silence their partisan voice.
Friends, there’s a lot more we can do to take back our country. What I’ve written today is just enough to get us started. My question to you is this: do you care enough about the future of this nation, your posterity, the legacy you leave the next generation, to get busy and help save it? I sincerely hope so.
