Fresh, Fruity, Natural Beauty for Spring 2010

by tinyswot

As if in response to what has been a particularly gray and dreary winter in many parts of the world, cosmetics companies are coming out with fresh, sweet, fruity makeup shades for this spring. Gone are the metallics, dark taupes and ’80s inspired jewel tones, and in come eggshell blues, yellows, soft oranges, delicate limes and delicious pinks. These sweeter shades of make-up are the perfect way to start up the new season with a little freshness and pizzaz.

Along with these fun and fresher shades of makeup, the overall look for this spring is one of youthful radiance and natural confidence. On Chanel’s runway for Lagerfeld’s Spring 2010 collection, the models all had a healthy flush created by using pink toned bronzers and pink lipstains, which gives the appearance of the girls having spent time outdoors rather than in front of a vanity. Designers from Balmain to Ana Sui had their models looking fresh, radiant, and effortlessly natural with the new fruity hues and no nonsense hair. Taking this look off of the runway and onto the street is simple to achieve. With the right color palette and some high quality make-up brushes anyone can look their best this Spring.

Keep in mind that heavy eyes and cheeks are out, and a simple swath of color on the eyes accented by brown or brownish/black shades of mascara rather than opaque black are in. A nice peach or shimmery cherry blush on the cheeks and a pretty pink gloss on the lips complete the look. For a more daring look and to kick it up a notch, try any of the new orange or watermelon lipstick shades that are popping up on the market, like Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Day Lily or Long Last Watermelon by Clinique.

Unless your skin is very oily, using powder is not necessary as the look for Spring 2010 is all about being natural, which means dewy skin is hot and in. The look to achieve is about looking radiant rather than overly polished.

To complete the look, keep your hair natural and no nonsense. Hairstyles that were all the rage on the runways for this Spring were tousled, just-out-of-bed waves and slightly messy high ponytails. Think more romantic and less angular. It’s as if this Spring the beauty industry is imparting a more outdoorsy, country-girl feel rather than an urban diva one, yet the one thing that remains the same season after season is well groomed brows. Keeping your eyebrows neat and shaped is always a must.

So, bid farewell to the grays of winter and the grays in your cosmetics bag and say hello to the fruity blossoming colors of Spring! The colors of the season are not only uplifting and radiant but also complimentary to most skin tones, and it doesn’t get much better than that!
