Weight loss is a constant battle for some people. Perhaps you have tried fad diets and pills until you are ready to give up on weight loss altogether. Take it from someone who has lost over 100 pounds, don’t give up.
Fad diets and pills that promise to help dissolve fat will keep you bouncing up and down on the weight yo-yo. It’s time to get realistic about weight loss and what it takes for you to lose the weight and keep it off.
Weight Loss Secrets You Must Know: Weight Loss Requires a Lifestyle Change
Once you decide that you want to lose weight and keep it off you have a decision to make. Are you willing to make lifestyle changes? One of the main reasons people fail at weight loss is that they go on diets restricting themselves from carbs, sweets, or other foods until they lose weight. Once they achieve their goal they feel there is no need to diet.
Throw the word “diet” out of your vocabulary. You must be willing to change your eating and fitness habits for a lifetime in order to achieve and maintain weight loss and fitness results you really want.
Decide that it is time to make a lifestyle change. You will get past the sugar and soda cravings. You may even come to love water as much as you do sweat tea.
Only you can make that decision and that means the responsibility for lasting weight loss is yours. Don’t blame it on the gym when you go and work out and still eat a Big Mac with French fries and a Diet Coke for lunch. Don’t fault your trainer or nutritionist when you fudge your eating journal to make it look like you have eaten a healthy diet.
No one is responsible for your weight, but you. (Excluding medical conditions and medications that may lead to inordinate weight gain.)
Weight Loss Secrets you Must Know: Weight Loss Requires a Vision
No body cleanse, pill, or fad diet is going to help you with permanent weight loss. The only thing that will cause you to lose weight is you making a decision for yourself that it is time for things to change.
Imagine the things you can do when you lose weight: how much healthier you will be, the new fashions you will be able to wear, the things you will be able to do that you are too heavy to do now. When you grab hold of that mental image in your mind and heart, nothing will be able to deter you from your weight loss and fitness goals.
Weight Loss Secrets you Must Know: Weight Loss Requires you to Eat
So many women sabotage their efforts at weight loss by cutting their caloric intake too drastically. You may drop weight initially by starving yourself, but once you start to eat again you will put on all that weight and more.
Consumption of calories is the key to revving up your metabolism. You must learn what to eat and eat more frequent smaller meals in order to gear your body up to work with you toward weight loss instead of against you.
Starving yourself can cause a myriad of problems such as anemia, low blood sugar, and may lead to severe eating disorders. It is not the way to successful weight loss.
Eat high protein, lean meats, and vegetables. Have a several small meals or snacks throughout the day. It sounds contrary to everything you have heard and tried all of your life. I have one question, how has the starvation diet been working for you?
Learn what to eat, control your portions, fuel your metabolism and fuel you body for exercise. If you don’t eat you can’t exercise.
Weight Loss Secrets You Must Know: Weight Loss Requires Exercise
Don’t cringe at the word “exercise.” The basic formula for weight loss is that you must burn more calories than you consume. If you are currently not burning enough calories (i.e. you have gained weight) then it’s time to move.
I love high energy exercise like running, biking, aerobics, and the like. You don’t have to exercise the way I exercise. You don’t have to like the same exercises I like, but you do have to move.
Find something you enjoy doing, like dancing, playing softball, walking, or stair climbing and do it. If there is absolutely no exercise you enjoy I challenge you to pick one and try it for 30 days. You will notice a difference in the way you look and feel that will motivate you to want to do more of that exercise or broaden your horizons and learn more.
Just like you can’t just stop eating to lose weight, you can’t expect not to exercise and maintain permanent weight loss. The key is to find a balance where you are eating healthy, filling fulfilled and burning off more calories than you are eating.
Once you reach your ideal weight, find a place where you can live your life in balance continuing to make healthy eating decisions and exercising for weight and health.
Weight Loss Secrets You Must Know: Weight Loss Requires you to Stay Hydrated
Drink water. When you are thirsty, drink water. When you think you are hungry, try drinking water first. The human brain has a difficult time distinguishing between hunger and thirst. If you drink water before you eat, it will also help you feel full and satisfied sooner cutting down on the amount of food you eat.
I can hear someone now saying I hate water. A little bit of Crystal Light will not hurt you. However, Diet Sodas may do more to sabotage your diet than help you. Regular sodas and juices are loaded with empty calories. Why drink hundreds of empty calories or diet drinks when, given time, you will find that water is the most satiating drink available.
The minimum amount of water you should consume is 64 ounces a day. That applies to everyone whether they are losing weight or not. I drink at least a gallon of water a day. I keep it with me all the time. I have found that many times when I felt hungry I was simply thirsty.
I have also found that by giving up diet sodas that I do not feel hungry or crave sugar the way that I did when I consumed Diet Coke by the case.
