Microsoft will leave original Xbox Live gamers out to dry on April 15, 2010 when it’s promised that original Xbox Live game support will be discontinued. This news comes as a shock for original Xbox Live gamers and these are the games they’ll surely miss.
The Flagship of the original Xbox and the original fuel for Xbox Live; Halo 2 has a cult like following that is so strong that they haven’t abandoned this original Xbox title and are still actively playing this game 6 years after its release (2004). Halo fan will still be able to play Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, and soon Halo Reach after original Xbox game support is discontinued on Xbox Live, but the original Halo 2 will never be forgotten by its fans.
Star Wars Battlefront
Another 2004 release, Star Wars Battlefront for the original Xbox was a LucasArts smash hit. This first and third person shooter provided a great alternate world to play with your friends via Xbox Live. If you are a fan of Star Wars (lol, if?) this game was a classic that will not be easily forgotten after Xbox makes sure original Xbox Live support is discontinued.
Released in 2003, Crimson Skies (High Road to Revenge) was the first (maybe only) original Xbox Live title that let you kick massive ass while flying through the air. Crimson Skies is an old school airplane dogfighting game where the objective is to shoot down the airplane of opponents while flying freely through various map for massive ownage. There aren’t many games like Crimson Skies and once it’s discontinued on Xbox live, there will be a huge void in gaming for this kind of online entertainment.
In 2003 VALVe released Counter-Strike for the original Xbox and changed online gaming forever. This original Xbox Live flagship was the first online game to incorporate microphone chat as effectively as it did and really got gamers into co-op gameplay. Counter-Strike brought original Xbox gamers together via Xbox Live and is still played to date (7 years later). This game will be discontinued with the end of original Xbox gaming support on Xbox live but it’s lived a long and health life.
Rainbow Six 3
Any game made by Tom Clancy will surely be missed after original Xbox Live titles get discontinued over Xbox Live, but Rainbow Six 3 might be the most missed of them all. IGN marked Rainbow Six 3 with just about every accolade possible and fans rave about this 2003 release till this date. Like Halo 2, Rainbow Six 3 is a first-person-shooter that never gets old and once discontinued over Xbox Live; this original Xbox title will be truly mourned.
