I first realized that I was a fashionista when I was twelve-years-old. While my friends were hanging out, I was delivering newspapers and babysitting in order to earn money to buy the latest Jordache Jeans (it was the 1980’s). Fashion has always been an important part of my life. Here are a few of the many beauty tips that I have picked up as an aspiring fashionista.
Beauty Tip #1: Well Groomed Brows are Important
I occasionally leave home without makeup, but I will never go out with unkempt brows. In my opinion eyebrows are one of the most important facial features. Consult with a stylist who specializes in eyebrows to design the perfect eyebrow arch for your face. Visit the online site, eyebrowz.com to see which eyebrow shape is best for your face. The site also shows you how to achieve the eyebrow shape of your favorite celebrity. Just remember this additional beauty tip, eyebrows that look great on your favorite celebrity may not look so good on you.
Beauty Tip #2: Develop a Signature Look
What did Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy all have in common? If you answered this question with “They each had a unique look” you are absolutely correct. Each of these fashion icons developed her own unique signature look, which is the reason they became famous fashion icons. Think about your own lifestyle. Which outfits make you feel sexy and feminine? I can tell you my signature look is my favorite Paige Premium denim jeans a white or black t-shirt by Vince and either a cardigan sweater or a black boyfriend blazer. I top the outfit with a pair of trendy wedge sandals or boots (depending on the season) and grab my favorite handbag (currently a vintage pink Prada bag, I bought at a Saks Clearance sale several years ago). My beauty tip to you is to find a style that works for you and wear it with confidence.
Beauty Tip #3: Take Care of Your Teeth
You can have beautiful eyes, a killer body and to die for hair, but if your teeth are a mess, your look is ruined. I cannot stress enough how important good dental hygiene is not only to your looks but to your overall health. Floss daily (I mean it!). If your teeth are yellowish and stained, consider getting them professionally whitened. Many dentists provide this service now and the cost has come down. If you cannot afford to have your teeth professionally whitened by a dentist, try Crest White Strips. You can buy a ten day at home whitening kit for just over $22.00 at Amazon.com.
Beauty Tip #4: Avoid Trends that Don’t Work for You
Asymmetrical, one-shoulder tops may be the must have item for spring, but if you have flabby arms you will want to stay away from this style. If you have wide hips, skinny jeans won’t work. My beauty tip to you is to purchase only those trends that make you look truly amazing.
Beauty Tip #5: Nothing Looks Better than Good Posture
I used to be a sloucher. I’m 5’8 and as a teen that made me taller than most of my friends, therefore I slouched. I have worked hard to make good posture a habit. Standing straight and tall makes you look more confident. It also makes your belly look flatter. You need to have good posture in order to look amazing. If you struggle with posture try yoga or Pilates. Both exercise disciplines help to strengthen your core and enhance your posture.
These are my five beauty tips from one aspiring fashionista to another.
