COVERGIRL’s® Smoky ShadowBlast™ is a simple tool that helps anyone create a smoky eye with little effort. This two-sided product contains complementary hues on either side to take the guesswork out of choosing colors (all beginners can breathe a sigh of relief)! There are currently six different color combos to choose from…all you have to do is pick your favorite and get to work. I experimented with the Tempest Blue, and I’m here to give you my humble tips and opinions.
First, let’s talk color. Choose one that compliments (not matches) your eye color. You will notice that each Smoky ShadowBlast™ has a lighter shade on one end and a darker shade on the other. The lighter color is your “highlighter” that will reach up to your brow bone, while the darker side is the color that will make your eyes pop.
Now it’s time to start highlighting with the lighter color, which is the rounded tip on your stick. Apply it from your lash line to your brow bone. I achieved this by using the stick to deposit the color, then using my finger to spread and blend over my eye. In fact, I think that your finger is your best tool in achieving this overall look! Before moving on to step 2, take a close look to ensure that the color is evenly deposited and blended over your entire eye (see image).
Next, use the darker color on the tapered side of the product to apply the shadow along the upper lash line. I tried to get as close to the lashes as possible, then angled my line slightly upward and beyond my lashes for a more dramatic look (see image). Then use the tapered edge along the crease of the eyelid and blend along the crease line with your finger. The creamy texture of Smoky ShadowBlast™ makes blending easy, which is crucial for achieving the smoky look. Otherwise, you could end up with an unnatural, painted-on look.
For added drama, switch back to the lighter, rounded tip and apply it to the lower lashes. I saved this step for last so that I could see the overall look without the bottom lash color. Although I was hesitant, I absolutely loved how this pulled the look together and made my eyes look more interesting (see image).
Finish with plenty of mascara! Since this emphasizes the eyes, stick to neutral shades for blush and lip colors. I would recommend COVERGIRL’s® Smoky ShadowBlast™ to anyone wanting to jazz up their eye makeup, and certainly to those who are timid to dive into the smoky eye look. The creamy texture stayed put for me, but the product is the perfect size to keep in a purse if you want to touch-up. The Tempest Blue shade is a fun look, but I don’t recommend it for blue eyes. The price is reasonable, so try a few shades and have fun with your new look!
