Chris Henry has died from head injuries. Henry, a Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, died Thursday from car accident injuries that he had suffered around noon on Wednesday. The death of Chris Henry is extremely tragic, and seems to have resulted from a situation that could have been easily avoided. Early on Wednesday reports were coming out of North Carolina that Chris Henry had been found on a street suffering from life threatening injuries, and some details followed that announcement. It wasn’t completely clear then what had happened, and some of the details are still missing from the accident that claimed his life.
Chris Henry died at 6:36 A.M. Thursday morning, reportedly after being taken off life support at the request of his family. Henry was engaged to Loleini Tonga and had been raising three children with the plans of getting married very soon. Something happened Wednesday morning that boiled over into a domestic dispute, and what is being reported is that Tonga tried to drive away in a pickup truck. Henry apparently tried to jump into the back of the truck, and may have succeeded before being thrown from the truck and suffering from life threatening injuries. Paramedics were quick to respond, but early reports had stated that the injuries were very serious.
Earlier this season, while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals, Chris Henry broke his arm on the field. That game was against the Baltimore Ravens, and resulted in a recent surgery that Henry had to have on his arm. With that in mind, it must have been tough for him to try to hang on to a pickup truck that was in motion, and it appears that the odds were against him safely doing just that. Now the very sad news of Chris Henry’s death is spreading around a disbelieving NFL as everyone starts to finally hear the news that Chris Henry has passed away.
Henry had played for the Cincinnati Bengals for the past five seasons, and was considered one of the better deep-ball threats in the NFL. He gave the Bengals a great way to spread the field against opposing defenses, and his first injury really hurt the team. Now the complete loss of Henry can’t even be quantified on or off the field of play. Henry was a player at West Virginia before coming into the NFL, who had some troubles with the law earlier in his career. It seemed that everything had finally smoothed out for him, making the news of his death even more shocking to everyone in the Bengals organization. Chris Henry was just 26 years old.
