Keep your cell phone in a pocket. A chip in the phone helps police track your location.
Run with a partner. Do not exercise alone in remote areas.
Vary your exercise patterns. Don’t exercise in the same place every day or even every other day. Don’t let strangers see your pattern of exercise times so they can predict you will be at a certain place at a certain time.
If you drive to where you are about to exercise, jot down a note with when you left the car and when you expect to be back and leave it in the car. This way should you have an accident or disappear, when cops find the car they will know that you did not intentionally go missing.
Carry some sort of noise making device when outside exercising such as an alarm or a whistle. Have something handy to make noise if someone who looks menacing is approaching.
It is helpful for everyone to take classes in self defense strategies. Crimes happen very quickly. With prior preparation, the mind and body will spring into action if danger arises.
If legal in your area, consider carrying a protective device such as pepper spray when outside exercising.
