If you have a boy that loves sports it’s not hard or expensive to create a sports theme for his bedroom. There are lots of decor projects that you can do to spruce up the walls, desk and other areas. Take on small projects that simply loan sports accents to the room or larger projects that will really create a sports-theme room. Either way, your boy will love the finished bedroom which will make him feel like he is surrounded by his favorite sports items and more.
Take an old sports jersey from the boy and create a fun note board. Cut a piece of thick cardboard to the shape of the shirt and slide it inside. Glue or tape the shirt to the board so it won’t slip out. Hang the shirt and provide the boy with some sports-theme or regular tacks. He can hang photos, notes, ribbons and more on the unique display board.
Use an old cork board to make something totally different. The cork board should be perfectly square. Hang it on the wall so that it is in a diamond shape. Now use Fun Foam from a craft store to create the sports image you want. The foam is flat, available in a huge variety of colors, and is very inexpensive. Cut the shape of a ball bat, a basketball, a player swinging a bat, or even a bowler. Mount the image to the cork board using double-sided tape.
If you don’t have a cork board you can use an ordinary sheet of cork. You’ll find it, by the sheet or by the roll, at most any craft store. This allows you to make a small diamond shape or a much larger one. The cork piece doesn’t necessarily have to be framed as the cork board is. Simply use double-sided tape to attach the diamond-shaped cork piece to the wall before attaching the image you’ve created. Or, eliminate the cork altogether and use a piece of thick cardboard instead. The cardboard can be painted or even covered in sports-theme cloth. Although the image you attach doesn’t really require any embellishing you can use markers to make patterns on images like a baseball or basketball shape.
An old dry-erase board can help you make a unique basketball goal wall hanging that’s perfect for a sports enthusiast’s bedroom. If you have hand tools you can make one version; if you don’t have tools you can make a different basketball goal. Purchase a small, plastic trash can – preferably oval or rectangular-shaped around the top – and use white tape or white paint to create a net effect. Place tape strips to create a cris-cross pattern that will represent the net. Or, paint the huge “x’s” on the can. Use orange paint or tape around the top area of the trash can to create the illusion of the ring. Now screw the can to the lower part of the dry erase board. If you have no hand tools do something completely different by making a fake goal. Cut a piece of netting and use glue dots or double-sided tape to hang the net piece from the front bottom area of the dry erase board. With either design use orange tape to make a square around the net or basket.
You’ll find all different types of netting when you visit a large fabric store. Choose netting similar to a basketball goal net and attach it to a lampshade. Never lay the netting over the top of the lamp; wrap it around and seam it at the back. This can be done to the bedroom trash can as well. Just use glue dots or double-sided tape to secure.
Make a night stand coaster by cutting most any shape from Fun Foam. Make a baseball, mini basketball, small football or other sports piece. All you have to do is cut out the shape and use markers to create details. These same shapes can be used to decorate a lampshade, curtain tie-backs, cornice, trash can, headboard, hamper, light switch cover, or even to make a theme on the bedroom door. Double-sided tape can help you affix the shapes to most any surface.
The smallest amount of sports-theme fabric can help you change the look of many different items in the room. Use one part white glue and one part water to attach shapes cut from the cloth onto lampshades, the trash can and many other objects. Use the glue to attach the cloth cutout then, when it’s dry, cover the top of the cloth with the glue as well. This will help protect the fabric and keep it from yellowing or from having the edges fray or curl.
If you have a boy that loves sports why not create a sports theme for his bedroom? It costs very little money to do most of these projects and the outcome is spectacular. When the room is done it will look as though you spent much time and money even though you didn’t!
