Best of the Decade 2010 New Year’s Eve Party Songs: Top Dance Songs

by tinyswot

If you’re looking for great dance songs of the past decade to play for your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, the “Aughts” (or whatever you want to call the past decade) have plenty to offer. From songs by the new quirky Queen of Dance herself to her slightly older pop-tastic counterpart, here you will find a good blend of some of the best dance songs for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party. I’ve selected one song from each year of the decade, but each selection contains a link to a list of ten other great songs for a 2010 New Year’s Eve party from that decade:

2009 – Poker Face by Lady GaGa – Whether you like it or not, there’s not way you can end 2009 without playing one of the most popular and parodied dance songs of the year at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party. This hit about hiding what you’re really thinking about in certain situations was one of the funkiest and freshest new dance songs of the past decade, but even if you aren’t a fan of one of the most fabulous and fierce dance songs for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve Party, you could always play Eric Cartman’s hilarious version of the most overplayed song of 2009. And for more great songs from 2009 for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, check out this list of other dance hits from the past year, including the likes of The Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, David Guetta, New Boyz, and more.

2008 – Paper Planes by M.I.A. – This is one of the trippiest dance songs of the past decade to play at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party for creating a light and airy, lackadaisical mood. But at the same time, it’s also one of the most energetic and upbeat dance songs of the past decade. It definitely tops my list of the best dance songs of 2008 with its chill beat that makes you feel like you’re drifting away on a paper plane, and everyone at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party will immediately light up and lighten up when you play one of the only dance songs of the past decade punctuated with gun shots and ka-chings! But even though this song is my favorite, you can find more great dance songs from 2008 for a 2010 New Year’s Eve party here, including Katy Perry’s ode to girls that love cherry chapstick, one of Britney Spear’s best comeback songs, Beyonce’s anthem to all the ringless gals out there, and a few great dance songs by the boys, too.

2007 – Soulja Boy Tell`em – Crank That by Soulja Boy – And here’s one of the best songs of the past decade for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, because it has a popular dance move to go along with it. Maybe imitating Superman seems silly, but it’s a great way to fly out of this decade and into the new one. Despite it’s goofiness, it’s still one of the most addictive dance songs of 2007, and everyone knew who Soulja Boy was after his dance sensation swept the nation via YouTube. But for some of the other best dance songs of 2007 for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, check out this list with some other great dances hits from that year, including Rihanna’s echoing, repetitive ode to staying dry, a song that will have everyone at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party doing their best to spend the night like a rock star, and even a song by Kanye West.

2006 – Sexyback by Justin Timberlake – This is one of the most surprising hit dance songs of the past decade, because it can be so hard to shed that boy band image and do something edgier when your teenage girl fans grow up. But JT managed to reinvent himself, and produced one of the best dance songs for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party for bringing sexy back to the dance floor. It’s one of the many songs you can play at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party that the girls will love, and it might even have some of the guys out on the dance floor busting out their best boy band moves. But if bringing sexy back from 2006 isn’t good enough for you, check out a few of the other best dance songs of the past decade from that year here, including one of the only songs about mouth gear you’ll ever hear, Fergie’s naughty take on a childhood tune, and Shakira’s sexy hip-shaking dance hit.

2005 – Gold Digger by Kanye West Featuring Jamie Foxx – Remember the days when we all tolerated Kanye? Well, it probably helped that Jamie Foxx backed him up in what is definitely one of the best dance songs of the past decade for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, and there is just something about this song that makes you immediately fall in love with it and want to dance as soon as year hear it. So play one of the best dance songs about one of women’s oldest professions at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, and reminisce about the days before Kanye dissed poor Taylor Swift. But if you can’t even stand to hear the guy anymore, check out this list of some of the other best dance songs of 2005, including the Pussycat Doll’s super sexy song about the battle between a girlfriend and sexy single girl, Fergie’s love song to her lumpy bits, and Gwen Stefani’s bananas hit about her not holla-ing back.

2004 – Toxic by Britney Spears – Before her fame became too poisonous, Britney Spears’ toxic tune hit the airwaves with a venomous bite that made it sure to become known as one of the best dance songs of the past decade. And with her triumphant return, this is one of the dance songs that you must play at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, with its unique spy-meets-spandex sound and intoxicating lyrics. So play what is probably one of Britney Spears’ best dance songs ever at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party, and reminisce about the days when Brit was the biggest sex symbol in the world. But if Britney’s world is not enough for you, check out this list of other dance tunes from 2004 perfect for a 2010 New Year’s Eve party, with songs by Usher, OutKast, and odes to milkshakes and salt shakers.

2003 – Get Low by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz Featuring Ying Yang Twins – Lil Jon is one of the best artists of the past decade, even if all he ever says is “Yeah!”, “Okay!”, and “What?!” (as per Dave Chappelle). It’s ingenuous that he has iced himself out by using just a few simple catchphrases, and his exclamations help make this one of the best dance songs of the past decade to play at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party. It’s also one of the dance songs on this list with the most explicit lyrics, so make sure you play it around the right crowd. And if it’s too much for you, check out this list of more dance songs from 2003 for playing at a 2010 New Year’s Eve party, which includes dance songs by mover and shaker 50 Cent, J-Lo, Eminem, and even another of Dave Chappelle’s favorite artists of the past decade to pick on, R. Kelly.

2002 – Can’t Get you out of my Head by Kylie Minogue – This is definitely one of my top picks for a 2010 New Year’s Eve party, and one of the most addictive dance songs of the past decade. It was hard to get this sexy dance song out of our head, as well as the sexy artist who sings it, and this hypnotic electronic tune will really keep the heads bobbing on your 2010 New Year’s Eve party dance floor. But while Kyle reigned supreme as the dance queen of 2002, there were plenty of other great dance songs from that year perfect for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party. Here you will find more of the best songs of the past decade by a few other lovely ladies (that aren’t always so lady-like, lucky for us), including Tweet, Shakira, No Doubt, and Pink.

2001 – ‘Danger (Been So Long)’ by Mystikal Featuring Nivea – I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t think of this as one of the best dance songs of the past decade, but I love this dangerous dance tune with a sinfully sexy sound and mystical musical twang. It’s one of my favorite dance songs of 2001 and one that would be perfect to play at a 2010 New Year’s Eve party with a sexy theme (like a masquerade). However, if your aren’t into Mysticism, check out this list of other great dance songs of the past decade from 2001 for a 2010 New Year’s Eve party, including hits by Destiny’s Child, Missy Elliott, Nelly, and more.

2000 – ‘Smooth’ by Santana Featuring Rob Thomas – This is one of the best dance songs for playing at your 2010 New Year’s Eve party for heating things up if the weather is chilly. It’s also one of the most unique dance songs of the past decade on this list, pairing alt rocker Rob Thomas’ angsty voice with Latino guitarist Carlos Santana’s amazing string work. It may be one of the strangest musical collaborations ever, but what sweet and sultry music the two made together. This is one of my favorite dance songs of the decade, and a must-have on your 2010 New Year’s Eve party playlist to get things started smoothly on the dance floor. And for more great dance songs from the beginning of the decade, check out this list of hits by Sisqo, Aaliyah, Dr. Dre, and even a few by our favorite former pop tart couple.

So whether you’re looking for pop dance hits or slightly dirty dance songs, the best songs of the past decade on this list will make your 2010 New Year’s Eve party the best party of the Aughts.
