Having dry, flakey, and cracked skin in the winter is common for both men and women. It can be both annoying and painful too. Finding the right product for winter skin can be a daunting task as well. Many products promise to moisturize skin, but many don’t live up to their promises while others are just flat out miracle products. But which product is right for you?
I have issues with flakey skin, especially on my arms from the winter. On top of this, I have KP, formally known as Keratosis Pilaris. My KP acts up during the winter and the bumps on my skin dry out even more. Because of this, finding a product that works for my skin during the winter months was my main goal.
One of my favorite brands is Kate Somerville, which offers a variety of beauty products. One of my favorite Kate Somerville products is the Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. It gets your skin amazingly smooth while polishing and refining the skin. So when I found out that Kate Somerville had an Exfolikate Body product, I jumped at the opportunity to try it.
I purchased Kate Somerville Exfolikate Body directly from the Kate Somerville website. A 5-oz bottle retails for $65, but better prices can be found on eBay and on Amazon, especially since full retail can sometimes be a little steep.
The bottle says that “papaya and pumpkin enzymes digest dead skin cells and gentle beads buff them away. Glycolic acid and lactic acid polish and refine, while rich emollients leave skin supple.”
It also adds that “caffeine stimulates, helping tighten and firm as bergamot and lavender oils combine for a soothing scent.”
In order to use the product, I followed the directions exactly. The directions say to use the product 1 to 2 times a week either in the morning or the evening. I used my hand to apply the product in a circular motion over my arms. It also adds that the steam from the shower will activate the enzymes within the Kate Somerville Exfolikate Body product. I left the product on my skin for approximately 2 minutes in order to let the enzymes work to their full potential. Finally, I washed the Kate Somerville Exfolikate Body off with warm water.
Immediately I could feel the results. My normally bumpy and rough skin was smooth, not to mention also moisturized. The feeling of the smooth skin lasts all the way until your next use too. So using this product 1-2 times a week is perfect use overall. It is great for rough winter skin!
Overall I would rate this product a solid 4/5. Firstly, it works and there is no doubt about that. Secondly, it’s expensive, which deducts from its overall score. It’s just that $65 might be too steep for some budgets. However, while it is $65, it lasts a long time if you use it sparingly.
