Did you know that April is designated as National Car Care month? Yes, even our cars have their own month, and what better time than the beginning of spring to get out there and give your car some TLC. Our cars have taken care of us all winter long by keeping us safe and warm as we traveled some cold snowy roads.
Why not show your car some support and give it some attention? You’ll enjoy nice weather, and be doing something productive, all at the same time. You do not have to be a certified mechanic, or even a meticulous detailer, but you do have to hit on a few things to keep your car looking and driving like new!
Saturate That Winter Salt!
Chances are you have driven on plenty of salt covered roads this winter. Salt is an enemy to your paint, undercarriage and those nice shiny rims you never took off! The first thing you want to do is wash all of the salt from the car. A run through the local car wash just won’t do the job, so don’t even think about it! Get out your garden hose and a spray nozzle.
Drag out the power washer if you have one, or borrow one from a friend. Heck, even go buy one…you can use it on the car, the house, the garage the patio furniture and oops…you probably aren’t ready for that much work just yet!
Once you have decided on your mode of cleaning, make sure you spray every little nook and cranny you can possibly get to. Don’t forget the wheel wells and the undercarriage. Salt and fly ash can get into the tiniest places. If it sits there it can cause corrosion and eventually rust. Salt film dulls the paint and the chrome too, so get it all off.
Car Care Detergent
Once you have sprayed or pressure washed the entire car, you should hand wash the exterior with a high detergent car safe cleaner. Use as warm of water as possible and a large soft sponge. Washing by hand will help remove any excess road grime and dead paint that the long winter months have built up. Think of it as a good exfoliate, just like you use on your face for dead skin! Let your car’s pores breath!
Give Your Car a Rub Down
You like a nice massage don’t you? Well your car will appreciate a nice deep massage with a soft sponge or cloth too. Be sure to apply a high gloss polish to that sponge and your car will be in Vroom Vroom heaven! Soon your car will have a nice happy glow!
The list of things you can do for your car to celebrate national car care month in April just goes on and on. Besides, you know your own car better than anyone. You know what it needs to keep it looking and acting its best. Just start with the power wash, the bubble bath and the rub down. Then the two of you can go out on the town! You know, show her off a bit…cars like that! No, really….they do….
