Due to a medical emergency the guys took to the stage Tuesday night instead of the Girls. The girls will perform on Wednesday night instead. Before I break down the performances did anyone notice how many times Randy said dude? Good lord.
First up was
Michael Lynche aka Big Mike
In the opening video they do for every contestant Big Mike said he could lift 501 pounds. Which means he can pick up about 10 Ryan Seacrests. Michael performed “It’s a mans world” by James Brown. Which was better than his last performance last week when he sounded like Fran Dreshcer mixed with Usher. His performance tonight was much better. It felt really relaxed. He definitely looked more relaxed on stage, and that was the theme for most of the guys tonight. They looked a lot more comfortable on stage. It only took two weeks. That is progress from the other seasons.
Interesting fact he didn’t speak English till the fourth grade, and yet has a better vocabulary than the drone that is Randy Dude Jackson. He performed “Gravity” by John Mayer. I didn’t like it. I mean he didn’t sing it poorly, or anything. It just felt like he copied John Mayer. Nothing original about it. It was really safe, and boring. Which leads to it not being memorable. You need to make it memorable if you want votes. I think he’ll be fine, but he better pick up his game. He needs to go out on his own, and not worry so much. He is a smart guy, and he is obviously over thinking everything about the competition. I hope he comes back next week, so we can see if he has it. If he doesn’t then vote him out next week. One more chance though.
This guy is an interesting person. He didn’t own a TV for most of his life, and he remodeled his own home. He remodeled it nicely too. It was like the opposite of what doctors are doing to Joan Rivers. He performed “I don’t wanna be” by Gavin Degraw. Casey brought out the electric guitar, and freaking rocked it. His voice was sort of copying Gavin Degraw, but his guitar playing was sick. He is lucky he brought out that electric guitar because if he didn’t that performance would have sucked. But luckily he brought it out, and brought down the house. Although this is a singing competition so to be fair just the vocals, not great.
He created some lanague in 4th grade or something. I am not sure. Oh and he has stage fright. Alex performed “Everybody knows” by John Legand with an acoustic guitar in hand. It started off with a bad first note, and ended with a bad note. However in between those bad notes was a good performance. Not great, not special, or amazing. But it was good and an improvement over last week. Again the theme of the night improvement. It’s surprising how fast the guys are coming into their own. Making better song choices, and just more relaxed on stage. I like Alex he seems like a good guy, and has the kind of nervousness to him that’s not annoying like David Archuleta.
Before every performance he does push-ups because it makes his pecks look better. Yes Todrick you have mastered the ability to understand exercise. His mission today? To not look like a dancer. He performed “Whats love got to do with it” by Tina Turner. It was alright. Just alright. Had a few great parts in it, but most of it was bland. Odd song choice too. I mean he changed it a little made it slower at the beginning. Just weird, and alright. I don’t even have much to say about it. I think he might be in trouble after that because no one is going to remember that.
He says that he rocks his onesie, and showed it. There is a song that a famous youtube personality put up called “I rock onesies” so that’s a little strange. But i gotta say I do want a onesie now. I have a feeling I’d never want to take it off though, so it could become a problem. Jermaine performed “What’s going on” by Marvin Gaye. Again much better than last week. I hated his voice last week, but I loved it tonight. Last week I couldn’t stand him, but he has jumped up a lot of spots with me. The judges weren’t as crazy about it, but I loved it. i know the judges don’t agree, and their opinion means a lot more than mine. I give Jermaine two thumps up though. I think he’s going home, though. By the way Jermaine knows god, and don’t tell him no different now! I wonder how god feels about Jermaine’s cockiness.
He’s a break dancer. A good break dancer, but he should definitely stick to singing. I am not all that in tune with the break dancing market, but I doubt it’s good money. He performed “You give me something” by James Morrison. He did give us something and that is a a not so great performance. Andrew Garcia is still the top dog in this competition, and I still love his voice. I think his voice is one of the best that American Idol has seen. But he needs a big surprise as the judges said because that’s what got him here. He needs to show that creative he has. This song didn’t show it. Come on Andrew next week, man.
He’s into photography which I think is pretty cool. Plus with that intro he already showed more personality than David Archuleta, kudos to Aaron Kelly. David Archuleta 2.0. He performed “My girl” by The Temptations. It was a good safe performance. Just like almost every other performer tonight. Boring. But it was good, and he has a great voice plus it was a better performance than last week. Improvement is key. It was just boring though, and safe. Nothing surprising about it, but he is safe. He did it enough which I guess is all he needs to do right now. Let’s hope all the guys are like fireworks, and their saving up for something big.
He has a huge family, and he likes to pray. His intro just basically showed how much of a good normal guy he is. He performed “Come on get higher” by Matt Nathanson. He was the first surprise of the night for me. He did great! Way better than last week, and was better with guitar in hand. The judges were tough on him again (except Simon). We must have listened to a different performance, but I loved it. I really like this dude and Simon and I are on the same page when it comes to him. Ellen is hung up on his looks, and shes like that with every single person up there. Always talking about their look. Ellen judge the singing. Singing first, look last.
He was a bad kid in high school, and got sent to an alternative school. It apparently worked for him, and as he stated he’s a nice guy, and always has been. He just made bad decisions. He performed “Lips of an angel” by Hinder. This song is always a problem with me because anybody with a decent voice can sing this song. It’s an easy song to sing. It can easily be impersonated, and he did just that. I mean it sounded good, but it was what it was, Hinder. It sounded good he has good vocals. Wasn’t anything special, though. It’ll keep him in the competition.
And that’s all. But I will say that Ellen is not as likable as a judge as I thought she would be. Kind of irritating.
