American Idol fans are still recovering from double elimination night, as we enter into next week with only seven contestants. The Glambert glow was definitely in effect as Adam lit the stage with his smoke and lights show singing hit single, “Whataya Want From Me.” The show was big on entertainment, but cut right through the mustard when it came time to announce the unlucky pair of Idols at the end of the line.
Katie and Andrew’s Farewell
Andy had an opportunity but did not seize it. I am sure when he goes back to view the tape of his performance, he will cringe and wonder where was his mind when it came time to decide what song he would sing and how he would sing it. Yes, it was Andrew’s song choice and slow arrangement that did him in. On the flip slide, Andy has a following on YouTube and will be touring this summer with the rest of the nine finalists.
I feel Andy has a bright future in the pop and R&B music arena. When the pressure’s off, it’s amazing what the artist can do. I hope to see Andrew in a recording studio laying down some tracks and I look forward to him working on his sound and releasing an album soon.
I really didn’t expect Katie to go so soon. Now that she has gone, I think we will be seeing her again. She’s young, talented, and has plenty of time to hone in on her sound and decide where she wants to go musically.
Sing A New Song
Next week, Alicia Keys will be dropping by to give the Idols a few tips on presentation. As far as song choices, well, I hear they can make those selections from the iTunes 77-track list of inspirational songs. Sounds kind of corny. Siobhan mentioned the limited song choices the Idols had for Elvis week. Is this the same situation? If so, it could be setting them up for a fast fizzle. Some songs are just plain. You can’t jazz them up. No amount of glitz will make them perky and appealing enough to make an impression on a panel of four judges. You have to have a song that will dazzle them. Like the judges say, a song you can own. With the wrong song, any of the contestants can go out like a meteor crashing to earth. Now, what does this all mean? Song choice could make you or break you.
This year’s finalists have a new album that is scheduled for release May 11. American Idols present their best songs from Season 9. The tunes are coming out on the 19/Recordings/RCA label and to pre-order your copy, go to:AmericanIdolMusic.com
Ryan Seacrest Reacts
Always full of enthusiasm and answer-back for Simon, Ryan has served as host for nine years. With his mom in the audience Tuesday, Ryan carried the show with his usual energetic drive and positive aura that keeps the Idols feeling kind of good. The audience feeds on this energy and cheers the performers on to do their best. Ryan is always there to give a contestant a much-needed hug and a word of encouragement.
You might be interested in knowing that Ryan works without a script. Nothing is rehearsed. Everything is spontaneous and natural.
His Thoughts on Adam: He’s smart.
On Big Mike: He goes for it. He has a desire to win.
On Lee DeWyze: He has a great voice but looks nervous out there performing.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
When asked about having to lower the boom and be the delivery guy with the bad news, According to the
LA Times, Ryan says its part of the job. The contestants, fans, and the audience know what to expect. He does note that it can be particularly hard when you have bonded with a contestant.
One of the biggest surprises for Ryan on the show: The elimination of Chris Daughtry. Ryan just didn’t expect it.
So, how’s it going to be next season without Simon? Hmmm…I wonder. Ryan says it will be like losing his oxygen. But, then again, I think it will be the light-hearted, critical banter they exchanged back and forth. Sometimes it sounds like they are really going at each other. Let it be known, though, that Ryan had dinner over Simon’s house not too long ago. Like last week.
Work To Do
Siobhan, Aaron and Tim have some work to do. It’s about song choice. And, by the way, they could step up the showmanship and stage presence while they are at it.
Stay In the Zone
Crystal, Big Mike, Casey, and Lee need to stay in the zone. You managed to select songs to showcase your talent. Do it again this week.
Walking The Line
Aaron and Tim are walking the line. They are the weakest contestants of this line up and will have put forth an all-out effort to stay with the pack. Alas, someone has to go, so, everyone, place your bets.
Kara DioGuardi poses nude in Allure magazine, which will be released April 20. Kara talks about battling binge eating and depression.
We are getting down to the wire and I am sure the seven finalists are keeping in mind just how crucial next week will be. Adam gave them lots of good suggestions. Add to that, Alicia Keys, their mentor for next week. Put it all together and you have a recipe for success and a chance to become the next American Idol.
