I remember their first date, I had to drive him to the mall to meet her and she was standing out front waiting for him. The first time I saw her, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something so familiar about her; yet I had never seen her before. What was this, why did I feel like I knew her? Then it hit me she was me, something about her reminded me of myself at her age. You see she was beautiful but I don’t think she knew it yet. Her hair was pulled back into a simple pony tail and there was a innocence about her. Whew, I was so thankful for that. So many of the young girls that didn’t realize their true value were throwing themselves at boys. This girl was different.
Of course they were young so I had no idea that she was the one. They continued their relationship and they grew to be great friends. Friendship is one of the strongest building blocks to a long lasting love relationship. Their relationship was being enforced because they were two young people being brought up with strong morals. My husband and I were in the ministry and I guess you can say our children were preachers kids. Thank God they didn’t fit that mole of the preachers kids being the worse. We were blessed with great sons that never got into any serious trouble. Don’t get me wrong he had his bouts with rebellion and making irresponsible decisions; but no police or babies; thank you Jesus.
They had committed themselves to God first which enforced their decision to do things his way. A love that will last forever is worth waiting for. I don’t think most young people realize that waiting proves more about the strength of a relationship than rolling around in the bed with the first guy or girl you fall for. So many fall in and out of love and because they shared more of themselves than they should have they have created soul ties. Fleshly connections purely based on lust, will never create anything lasting and once the lust has died so has the relationship. A love based on intimacy that has nothing to do with the body but everything to do with the soul will draw two people into a relationship that with self restraint will last.
She was his first real girlfriend that he brought home to meet the family. As the years went by she became part of the family. I watched her blossom before my eyes, she grew from this little sweet girl into this beautiful woman. I never forget when my son told me he was ready to pop the question I was so excited. He had devised a plan that I knew would bring her to tears. He secretly went behind her back and invited her family to our church and her best friends; and just so they would not spoil the surprise he had them to hide in the back until he was ready.
We were having praise and worship and he got up as though he was going go give a testimony, but he went up front and called her up. It was at that moment that he dropped to his knee and the door opened and her family came out. Yes she began to tear up, I am sure she realized what was about to happen. It was the most romantic things I have seen. What girl wouldn’t want such romance?
This young lady that had done so well at preserving her virtue was not trying to have the most elaborate wedding she wanted so little but God blessed her with so much. She only wanted a beautiful wedding dress, the wedding was so simple but oh so beautiful. I remember the anguish that almost ruined a perfect day by dealing with a slight disappointment before the wedding between me and my son. It soon became a distant memory when I saw what God had done in these two young people that were willing to wait for a love that will last forever. This May 26th will be their third wedding anniversary and from their love God produced the most beautiful child. Now I not only have a daughter but I now have the most beautiful granddaughter and for that I am ever so thankful.
These guidelines will help you to create a true and genuine relationship that will last, especially based on more than lust that fades.
1 Corinthians 7:1-5 (King James Version)
1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency
I saw the movie Twilight and realized one of the lures for the movie was the restraint that the guy playing the good vampire showed for the girl he fell in love with. If only men could show that kind of restraint for the girls they claimed they respected and loved. I hope this story will inspire some young lady to realize that she too is worth waiting for, because what she has is precious. I have so much respect for my daughter in law and I am sure this will be something she teaches to my granddaughter!
