The BAFTA awards are second only to the Oscars in the world of movie events. The BAFTA awards are hugely prestigious and honour actors, directors, and other noteworthies of the cinematic world. It is all about movies…or is it?
Let’s face it. Most of us who are watching the BAFTAS are more interested in watching the celebrities than we are in the actual nominated films. Even if you haven’t seen all of the movies up for awards, you are sure to recognize the hordes of glamorous people.
So who was present at the BAFTAS? Let’s have a quick look at the red carpet and around the beautiful theatre.
Robert Pattinson, international heart-throb star of the Twilight series, was in attendance. He looked somewhat uncomfortable when host Jonathon Ross pointed him out in his introduction speech (along with Kate Winslet and Dustin Hoffman). He looked charming, but to be honest he looked like his hair needed less styling and more shampoo. Sorry girls.
Award ceremonies are always a popular time for couples to “come out” and make their relationship public. The BAFTAs this year are no exception. Bonnie Wright (famous for playing Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter series) looked gorgeous and grown-up with her boyfriend Jamie Campbell Bower (who appears in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Twilight). Yes, they’re a young, trendy couple. And good for them. They look great and happy. I hope it lasts.
Colin Firth is an icon of British cinema, and is most famous for playing the ultimate British man, Mr. Darcy. Even though he’ll turn 50 this year, Firth is looking great. He seems, as always, confident and charismatic. He proves that it’s not just the young and the newcomers that are exciting. I think that just about any woman watching would still be thrilled to get a glimpse of Firth.
Newcomer to the BAFTAs Carey Mulligan looks as cute as a button. She is nominated for best actress in An Education, and is also nominated as a Rising Star. Dressed in Vionnet, Mulligan looked absolutely lovely. Her pixie style short hair is newly blonde, and the switch suites her. I’m sure she has all of her fingers crossed for tonight. Good luck to her!
Claire Danes, who presented the costume design category, looks terrible. I almost didn’t recognize her. By Hollywood standard, I’m sure she seems fantastic: she looked tall, blonde, and super-skinny. In short, she looks like a Charlize Theron wanna-be. She just looked too artificial for my taste. I miss the days when she seemd young, naive, and–above all–individual.
Audrey Tatou, star of Coco Before Chanel, looks absolutely stunning. She has an utterly French fashion that is completely feminine and alluring. She looks fantastic; it’s no wonder she starred in a movie about one of the fashion world’s biggest legends.
These are just a few of the beautiful people at the BAFTAs tonight.
