Like every game in the Disgaea series, Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice is a game that rewards perseverance with excess. One of the greatest excesses in the Disgaea 3 is the maximum potential value of a character’s attributes. In order to obtain this maximum, you need to do more than simply level your character to level 9999. To truly maximize a character’s attributes, you need to repeatedly reincarnate the character into more powerful forms, with more powerful attributes.
Just like in previous games, reincarnation is both a way to change the class of a character as well as a way to improve the attributes of the character. The class change part of reincarnation is simple. Whenever you reincarnate a character, you may select any class you have unlocked as its new class, including retaining the same class, upgrading to a new tier of the same class, changing from character class to monster class, or vice versa.
Besides changing your character’s class, reincarnation will increase your characters attributes. This improvement comes from two specific reincarnation mechanics. First, depending on the exact value of your character’s attributes (without including equipment benefits), your character will be granted a small bonus to its base attributes when it reincarnates. Second, each time your character reincarnates, the game records how many levels the character had before reincarnating. Based on the sum of these levels, you gain a small number of bonus points to manually add to base attributes of your choice.
While this may not seem like a large increase in attribute values, base attributes have a significant effect on attribute values. Every time your character levels, each of the character’s attributes increase by roughly 50% of the base value of the attribute. Thus, at level 9999, your character will have gained roughly 5000 points in an attribute per 1 point of base value of the attribute.
Another major use to reincarnating is unlocking the higher tier classes in the game. Higher tier classes have better base values than lower tier versions of the same class, so it is always advantageous to change into a higher tier when possible. To unlock a higher tier class, you need a character to gain a certain level in the class one tier below the tier you are trying to unlock. Since each class has 6 tiers, you need to reincarnate at least 4 times to unlock the highest tier of a class.
While much of this is the same as previous games in the series, Disgaea 3 has introduced two new mechanics that alter how reincarnation works. The first of these new features is the Class World. Each character houses a dungeon called Class World, which can be used to improve various attributes and skills of the character. Depending on the quality of the character, you can enter that character’s Class World between 1 and 3 times each reincarnation. Thus, it becomes important to reincarnate to the highest quality possible in order to gain as many trips to Class World as possible.
Also, much like in previous games, reincarnating costs a varying amount of Mana, depending on quality of reincarnation and exact class that is being reincarnated to. Unlike in previous games, the base Mana cost for reincarnating increases every time a character is reincarnated. So, it becomes increasingly more expensive to reincarnate.
Mathematically, it is almost impossible to completely maximize reincarnation cycles, but there are a few tips that can optimize reincarnations. Since reincarnations are most efficient when reincarnating to a 6th tier class, you should create a character simply for the purpose of unlocking the 6th tier of a class. Once that character has leveled and reincarnated sufficiently to unlock the 6th tier of the class, delete the character and create a new one that starts in the 6th tier of the class. This will make it so the new character pays less Mana for later reincarnations.
In addition, while reincarnating a character for better attributes, you should always reincarnate to at genius quality and should always enter Class World for the character all three times before reincarnating again. This will help maximize the characters attributes. You may want to reincarnate to a different class at least once, in order to gain a skill only accessible from that class. For example, by reincarnating a warrior to a cleric, you can obtain Giga Heal, which you will keep when you reincarnate back to a warrior later.
Finally, eventually Mana costs will get high. In order to continue to build enough Mana to keep reincarnating, you will want to get a lot of Managers inside items you possess or put the reincarnating character in the Robber Shop club. To fully maximize attributes requires about 10 or so reincarnation cycles, each one leveling the character fully to level 9999. This can take a while, but if done correctly will produce a character with attributes in the millions.
