New Graduation Songs for 2010
‘I Made It’ by Kevin Rudolf – This is one of the best new 2010 graduation songs for seniors glad that they made it to the stage to snag their diploma. Sure most seniors won’t be throwing money around or driving Bentleys, but lyrics like, “I look up to the sky and now the world is mine,” make it one of the great new graduation songs for seniors looking for something upbeat with a good beat.
‘Live Like We’re Dying’ by Kris Allen – Here’s one of the most inspirational new graduation songs for 2010, perfect for teaching Seniors one last great life lesson before their high school days come to an end.
‘We Are the World 25 for Haiti’ by various artists – And when it comes to inspirational new songs for graduation 2010 that give the seniors a good message to go out on, this is one of the best. It tells them to go out and do good in the world by giving, and with so many artists involved, the senior class won’t have to fight over who they want to sing their parting words.
‘Young Forever’ by Jay-Z – This is one of the best new 2010 graduation songs for seniors that never want that feeling of being young and free to fade, and one of the best new graduation songs of 2010 for celebrating that feeling of freedom to.
Popular Graduation Songs for 2010
‘Graduation (Friends Forever)’ by Vitamin C – This is probably one of the most popular graduation songs of all time and one that some might consider one of the best. I remember it getting tons of radio play back in my high school days, and I’m betting it will still be big in 2010 (although I’d prefer to never hear it again.)
‘Everybody’s Free’ (to Wear Sunscreen) – This is another of the most popular graduation songs from my day that we’ll probably still be hearing in 2010, and one of the only graduation songs here that is spoken instead of sung. But when it comes to graduation songs that offer the best advice to graduating seniors, it’s hard to beat this one (although I think the “wear sunscreen” message needs to be replaced with “stay away from tanning beds”).
‘Good Riddance’ (Time of Your Life) by Greenday – What is it about songs with parenthesis in the title that makes them great graduation songs? As a lover of parenthesis, I can’t deny their power (they say that the most important parts of articles, letters, etc. are always in the parenthesis). Anyway, this is one of the many graduation songs for 2010 that gets used over and over again, but there’s a reason for it: it’s emotional and truly captures the spirit of reaching that fork in the road at the end of high school (but the part in the parenthesis is the most important; make sure you have the time of your life with your last days of youthful freedom).
Country Graduation Songs for 2010
‘Whenever You Remember’ by Carrie Underwood – This is one of the best 2010 graduation songs to play for a senior class that wants to remember all the good times they had and a great song for a slideshow of senior moments (you’ll be having plenty of those sooner than you think).
‘A Place in This World’ by Taylor Swift – This is one of the best graduation songs of 2010 by one of the most popular country artists of the year, and it would be really funny to start playing a Kanye West song at graduation (although I don’t recommend ‘Graduation Day’) and interrupt it with this one in honor of one of the greatest moments of 2010.
‘Don’t Forget to Remember Me’ by Carrie Underwood – For 2010 seniors already anxious about college, this is one of the best country songs for graduation. It’s about leaving home but not forgetting about it and finding peace in a whole new world.
‘You’re Gonna Miss This’ by Trace Adkins – And here’s another of the best 2010 graduation songs that offers seniors a tidbit of parental wisdom: life goes by fast and one day you’ll miss the freedom of youth, so don’t take it for granted (of course us adults that all give this advice once ignored it).
Classic Rock Graduation Songs for 2010
‘Free Bird’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd – This is one of the best 2010 graduation songs for graduating seniors that want the other seniors at their graduation to recognize the song playing. It’s a great anthem about freedom, but just keep in mind that sometimes life outside what now seems like cage isn’t always all that it’s cracked up to be.
‘Brick in the Wall’ by Pink Floyd – This isn’t one of the best inspirational graduation songs for 2010, but I guess seniors that really didn’t get along with their teachers will appreciate it (but good luck getting the school officials to let you play it).
‘Forever Young’ by Bob Dylan – Another of the best classic songs for your 2010 graduation, Bob Dylan’s poetic words about staying forever young still ring true today.
‘It’s My Life’ by Bon Jovi – It’s hard to find graduation songs about taking the reins in your life and riding away on your steel horse that are as powerful as this rock ballad. So live while you’re alive and don’t settle for being just a face in the crowd, being sure to play this graduation song loud.
‘Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey – This is one of my favorite graduation songs for 2010, a classic song that just keeps coming back. So be sure to hold onto that youthful feeling for as long as you can, and don’t stop believing in your dreams after the real world makes them seem a lot harder to achieve.
‘School’s Out’ by Alice Cooper – Here’s another of the graduation songs for 2010 that school officials probably won’t like, but the words “school’s out forever” will never be more powerful (or truer) to you as they will on graduation day.
2010 Graduation Songs About Friendship
‘With a Little Help from my Friends’ by Joe Cocker – This isn’t just one of my favorite graduation songs for 2010, but one of my all-time favorite songs. There’s no better way to celebrate your friends, and it’s really hard to hold the tears back with this one.
‘With a Little Help from my Friends’ by The Beatles – This is the more upbeat of the two versions of this song, so if you’re looking for happier songs for your 2010 graduation that celebrate your friends, get through your graduation with a little help from the Beatles.
‘Thank You for Being a Friend’ by Andrew Gold – Celebrate your friends Betty White-style with the theme song from ‘The Golden Girls’. (It’s one of the most relevant graduation songs of 2010 for you and your Facebook friends that are part of the movement to get Betty White on SNL).
‘The Great Escape’ by Boys Like Girls – This is one of the best 2010 graduation songs to share with a friend as you celebrate your great escape from high school life, although the part about drinking might not go over so well (and I in no way condone it).
Sad Graduation Songs for 2010
‘I Will Remember You’ by Sarah McLachlan – This is probably one of the most tear-inducing graduation songs ever, so if you don’t want to see your mother cry and your dad try his best not to, it may not be one of the best choices for your graduation playlist.
‘Unwritten’ by Natasha Beddingfield – If a lot of girls in your graduating class were into ‘The Hills’, then this is one of the 2010 graduation songs they’d probably love to hear played on their big day. But for those that hate the show and the song, well, I guess you can hand out earplugs before diploma time.
‘Time after Time’ by Cyndi Lauper – I absolutely love Cyndi Lauper’s voice in this song, and, thanks to Lady GaGa, it looks like one of pop’s original princesses is making a comeback. So celebrate the time you have left in high school by making her super-sweet and sad tune about friendship one of your 2010 graduation songs.
‘If Today Was Your Last Day’ by Nickelback – Another of the best songs for offering advice to 2010 seniors on their graduation day, it reminds them to always live every day of their life like it was their last.
So from funny to sad to new, there’s sure to be some 2010 graduation songs on this list for you. But if I was a senior trying to choose songs for my 2010 graduation, I think I would try to choose one relevant to 2010: one that offers great advice; one that we all loved; one that’s really memorable; and one that makes us smile. So what 2010 song would that be? ‘Pants on the Ground’, of course!
