It’s time for my 2009 NFL Week 16 picks and predictions. In case you missed it, you can take a peak at my Week 15 picks and predictions here. Now the schedule moves into Week 16 of the NFL season. It’s crunch time particularly in the AFC where the NFL playoff scenarios are getting crazier by the second. So here are my 2009 NFL Week 16 picks and predictions with the emphasis on critical NFL playoff scenario contests.
Let’s start with the Thursday game on tap for the 2009 NFL Week 16 schedule. Tennessee hosts San Diego. The Chargers are in but the Titans need a win and a lot of help to make the playoffs. Tennessee barely nipped Miami this past week but the Chargers are playing great football of late. Can the Titans win at home? My gut feeling on this one is the Titans will somehow muster a 26-21 victory. It still might not be enough to help Tennessee make the playoffs if the NFL Playoff scenario continues the direction I think it will.
My other picks and predictions for the 2009 NFL Week 16 schedule? Buffalo travels to Atlanta. The Falcons aren’t eliminated yet and they’ll pick up a big 34-16 victory over the Bills. The NFL Playoff scenario has the Falcons making the playoffs only by a long shot even if they win both of their final two games. Still, a win is a win.
Kansas City is at Cincinnati and finally the Bengals appear to have a breather. Will they beat the Chiefs? No problem here as the Bengals absolutely roll 34-13. This win by the Bengals will answer some of the questions concerning the AFC Playoff Scenarios.
My picks and predictions for 2009 NFL Week 16 continue with a meaningless game between Oakland and Cleveland. Both teams are finishing better than they started. I predict that this one will come down to a late field goal as the Raiders escape with an ugly 19-16 win. Perhaps one day Browns and Raider fans will once again get to enjoy the down the stretch NFL Playoff scenarios. For now, they’ll settle for playing for a top draft pick.
Seattle visits Green Bay in another match up on the 2009 NFL Week 16 schedule. The Packers rebound nicely with a 38-17 victory.
Baltimore travels to Pittsburgh in a very interesting game. Do the Steelers have it back together just in time? They will no doubt be tested against the Ravens. Steelers win an ugly game 20-16. My guess is if the Steelers win out they still won’t be able to make the playoffs given the current scenario.
Houston is in Miami also on the Week 16 schedule. The NFL playoff scenarios are still quite confusing for the AFC. Can either of these teams make the playoffs? Probably not. Still, it’s the Dolphins winning 23-21.
Jacksonville travels to New England to play the Patriots. I predict it’s all New England in this one 35-14.
My picks and predictions for the 2009 NFL Week 16 schedule continue with Tampa Bay in New Orleans. Saints cruise to a “W” with a 31-10 romp over the Bucs.
Carolina visits the Giants after thumping Minnesota. The Panthers aren’t the same team on the road and they play like it here with a 27-16 loss.
Detroit is at San Francisco. The 49’ers play great defense-particularly at home. My picks and predictions have the 49’ers rolling to a 24-9 win over the Lions.
Other 2009 NFL Week 16 picks and predictions? Arizona blasts St. Louis 43-10, Indianapolis handles the Jets 32-13 and Philadelphia dominates Denver 33-17. I also pick Dallas to beat Washington on the road 23-10 and Minnesota wins in Chicago 24-17 on Monday Night.
